What happened to the witches?

What happened to the witches?
I was curios as to what realization did people come to back in the witch hunting days that made them stop believing in witches? I know it had to have been a somewhat slow phase-out but the belief seems like it did end rather abruptly. I tried googling and I just couldn't find anything that discussed it. However, I was actually quite surprised how many people still believe this stuff based on my search results.

I was hoping to find something that will help the modern world wake up and grow up out of their fantasies.

The Enlightenment. But honestly, people still believe in witches - even in this country.

Who says they stopped believing in witches? In Africa, they still hunt down & kill children they suspect of being witches, and a few years back on another message board a fundie was claiming that there are witches everywhere.

They claim it every Halloween and every time a metal song comes out.

What has happened to witch hunting you say? I'll tell you, American Pentacostalism has mixed with African supersticion to create a well funded, powerful, and horriffic religion. Children as young as two years old are being accused of witchcraft and are being burned with fire and acid, starved, left by the side of the road, beaten, you name it. This is some real shit.

Here are the links http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2012/j...sfeed=true

http://newhumanist.org.uk/2548/witch-hun...yjune-2011

Here's a link that really shows the scam. The "pastor" does a slight of hand trick to pull "demonic flesh" out of a young child. The bastard then burns the kid with candle wax. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlRG9gXriVI

These sob's preach in America, get donations, and then go back to Africa. Here's a bitch who will be coming to Houston this March. http://blog.newhumanist.org.uk/2012/01/n...er-to.html

Here's the link to the BBC documentary on the subject: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pla...bGzFN_NalI

Also many of these "pastors" put their thugs in government positions so that no one can get justice. In particular Helen Ukpabio has fought Stepping Stones Nigeria (a charity to aid the children accused of witchcraft) and those in charge of caring for these children tooth and nail. It's horrible. Here's a video of her thugs invading a conference on the abuses of witchcraft accusations. The thugs in the orange shirts and hats are Helen Ukpabio's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWktZEj6O...e=youtu.be

I hope no one thinks this is spam. This is about trying to stop some horrible human rights violations, I not selling anything. I am one of the people who are fighting Helen Ukpabio here in Houston. If anyone is interesting in helping there is a charity, a petition to keep her out of the country (which probably won't be successful) and a Facebook page to "like". If nothing else please spread the word. Africans actually respond well to rational criticism and shame. They want status. Exposure will lead to shame and possibly (hopefully) change.

The charity: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundrais...Team=false

Petition: http://www.change.org/petitions/the-pres...en-ukpabio

Also go to the Facebook page "Stand Against Helen Ukpabio" and "like" it.

One final thing witchcraft torture happens in the UK and the United States I can't find the link to the story about what happened in the U.S. but here's what happened in East London: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-16427840
I have studied the Bible and the theology behind Christianity for many years. I have been to many churches. I have walked the depth and the breadth of the religion and, as a result of this, I have a lot of bullshit to scrape off the bottom of my shoes. ~Ziploc Surprise

The current high fashion in Africa is killing albinos. Albino people. Adults and children. Of which there are a lot overthere. And then they chop them up in dice-sized little pieces and 'sangomas' (witch doctors) sell those as 'muti'. Best translated as 'magic medicine'. Against all manner of ailments and bad luck, or to please certain deities, or to pacify demons. Etc. etc.
They are fully aware that it is against the law but that's never stopped the black market – actually the white market of the black people of course – from thriving.
Just imagine how much 'muti' you can sell, at 50 bucks a pop, of just one miserable albino, whom no one would miss anyway. It could pay for that shiny Merc you want so much!

But witchcraft is just as prevalent among white people. Only they don't call it witchcraft anymore (in the English-speaking world), because of the negative connotations, but the fashionable nomenclature is Wicca, which, you guessed it, they claim is their 'religion'...
Another difference is that western Wiccas don't kill and chop up people (anymore). As far as we know...

And just to be complete: Asians are at least as superstitious as Africans or Caucasians. Just look at their millions of idols in temples or beside the roads, or their illegal tigerbone trade, etc. etc. And they just love fortune telling! And a fortune teller is of course simply another kind of witch.

Yet another reason why religion should be repressed from power.
