Again, conviction is what is required. That cases go unreported is something that I wouldn't argue with at all. You're essentially talking about "estimates of guilt sans trial or conviction by a jury of your peers"..well, no fucking thank you. This isn't a concept I'm willing to consider, let alone draw conclusions (or take additional actions) based upon. If you are raped, you report it. If you do not, the law cannot help you. As you hve mentioned, this is not an issue with the law, but with culture and stigma (the flipside of which being the stigma attached to that nagging number of unfounded allegations). If we're willing to consider action based upon cases without convictions (or even reports), why are we not also considering additional action based on those unfounded allegations?

The laws are tricky and vary greatly state by state, which makes these kinds of conversations nearly impossible when talked about on a general level. I am not involved in the legal system whatsoever, so my opinions are primarily cultural and preventative like we mentioned.

Why bother reporting without some sort of video/image evidence and perhaps some clear battery upon your body/leftover fluids from them? And even when such evidence might well exist, it isn't necessarily in your hands.
Because that is what you'd probably need for a conviction. And even if they were convicted: how does that help you, exactly? The deed(s) has(ve) already been done.

The difference between the two numbers does not mean that the original claims were lies. There are plenty of reasons why a district attorney might fail to get an indictment and then a conviction; lack of evidence or unreliability of a witness being two of the most obvious.
Besides, we also don't have any clue from those numbers how many cases were plea-bargained down to a lesser charge.
In short, drawing conclusions from this kind of data is shaky.

Absolutely. At the end of the day even the 8% rate of unfounded allegations has so many qualifiers attached that it is also effectively meaningless. "Unfounded" means more than just false (and sometimes, hilariously, does not mean false at all), it has more to do with law than with whether or not something actually happened or didn't. It's a big mess.

In my country,rape is accepted as being THE most under reported crime.
Roket seems to be speaking ex rectum.However, I will accept his claim the second he provides some actual proof. Looking forward to that as I really have no idea exactly how one measures unreported crime. If he's not a misogynist, he's given a very good imitation.

Also note that failure to defend one's position in no way equates inability to defend one's position.

Rape is almost impossible to verify. Vaginal tears and bruising can often happen during consensual sex. I would be willing to bet that it happens vastly more often than what is reflected in the statistics.
