RE: James Randi's next grand debunking
Nice to see they're building that ark with steel beams instead of all wood.
I never understood the fascination with Noah's Ark among crazy Christians. They're also building that Noah's Ark theme park in Kentucky, and I believe the Creation Museum also features Noah's Ark. I mean, what an embarrassing story. Their god is all-powerful but wants people to have free will, so he creates them knowing that they'll be evil and then tries to drown them all except for 8 of them who just happened to be good. Quote:a modern-day Noah's Ark is being built as a sign to the world of God's love Doesn't sound like he had a lot of love for all those people he drowned. |

I have studied the Bible and the theology behind Christianity for many years. I have been to many churches. I have walked the depth and the breadth of the religion and, as a result of this, I have a lot of bullshit to scrape off the bottom of my shoes. ~Ziploc Surprise

(22nd February 2012 06:33)Ziploc Surprise Wrote: several decades ago the pastor of this church http://www.godsark.org/who was an excellent con artist (so I've been told by numerous people) went on a fundraising campaign to earn money to build Noah's Ark in Western Maryland. When he made enough money he ran off with it. A while later, after he had spent the money, he came back, was forgiven and went on his second campaign to raise money to build the ark. This happened several decades ago and the ark still hasn't been finished. Follow the link I posted to see the progress. In just the last 15 years this crazy Dutchman almost singlehandedly built nearly two Noah's Ark replicas! This is the first, when it was nearly finished. The second one, twice the size of the first was planned to go to the London Olympics. So that one must be almost finished too. I'll keep you posted. http://www.wired.com/playbook/2011/06/no...-olympics/

Again, with so many ark replicas, I just don't get why Christians are so fixated on building them. And can't they see that one that size is still too small to carry two or seven of every animal species on the planet?

A great many people (including entire cultures over the span of thousands of years) are fascinated by boats. Especially large boats. So, it could be an issue of combining three persuasions that generate a lot of passion. Boats, Religion, and Really Big Shit.

Yet they can "clearly see" a vast expanse of the cosmos otherwise un-observable or un-observed...lol.
