God's Checklist

GC, I though all there was to your faith is accepting Jesus as your personal saviour and believing in the bible. What "extra" do you need to "test and grow" your faith?

If your faith has not grown to the levels that is demanded by your God (which I suppose is total submission to him), then you are not really fully inspired by the bible, in other words, there is a pinch of doubt in your faith.

GC, you don't need atheists to convince you that your faith is beyond breaking. Faith is just that...faith - an unmovable, unquestionable, untestable state.

Well Aleia's new hotty sure lays waste to belief in the God of the bible read literally. Gods as a category is a lot harder to debunk, though anyone with a rational mind can be made to laugh at some aspect of most if not all of them.

Personally I don't restrict my understanding of the world to what survives the filtering of the rational mind. You'd have to toss out the arts if you did that. There are truths that won't survive that reduction that would leave life a poorer thing. Emerson's saying fits here: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds." You can't beat science for verifying claims regarding the objective world. But you can't hold your understanding of yourself or your human potential to that same test without loss.

When one lift weights he does not believe that he can not lift more with practice. I believe I can learn more when challenged by non believers, the challenge of other christians is at best arguing about denominational differences, if you haven't notice I do not confront other christians about denominational differences, I will however take on the ones who blatantly misrepresent christianity.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Of course you don't GC, you couldn't expose their deceit without exposing your own. Don't worry big guy, I've seen them all say exactly the same thing. You guys can't own up to yourselves or each other (let alone us) that you aren't even worshiping the same god.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Well if it's a challenge you want, God's Child, here you go.

Easiest level: Can you accept all that science finds out as the best guess we have regarding the natural world without diminishing your faith?

Medium level: Can you accept that heaven and hell are states of mind you incur based on how you live your life without resenting God for depriving you of an eternal after life as you are now?

Hardest level: Can you accept that the bible is a compilation of materials some of which may be inspired by your God and some of which were not?
[Bonus Points if you can accept that God has also inspired other authors of other books, both holy and secular, at various times in history.

To my mind it should be possible for a follower of Jesus to meet every one of these challenges. If you fail at any of them, IMO it is a measure of the weakness of your faith.

Yes, science best guess would not be positive proof, any positive proof that exists I will accept and it will not diminish my faith.

Heaven and hell are not states of mind and you can no more prove they are than I can prove they aren't. Eternal life with God is not based on works, grace through faith is the answer here, I have no doubt that I will be with God in eternity.

The entire Bible is inspired by God, if any book were not then the whole Bible would fall apart. We do not have any of the original copies, so you nor I can say if mistakes crept into some passages, if they have they are minor and take nothing away from the living Word. My faith is extremely strong on this matter, those who seek the truth of God from scripture understand this, those who read it for another book will never understand this. God inspires authors in our time to write books, books based on the truths of scripture, Christ said that scripture would remain true till the end of time, you really did not think I would advocate that God has other writings that might contradict the Bible did you.

Which bible is that? Different gangs of religious fuckheads use different bibles with different books.

Oh, I bet I know. YOUR bible is right and all the others are wrong.

GC, can you tell me why your god's plan is so horribly shitty, and full of logical errors that it doesn't seem like it's all the handiwork of some omniscient being, but rather fabricated by a bunch of ancient people with political agendas? Because that's actually what the thread is about, ya know.

I love how Christians are so skillful at deflection. You come in here with your "this is trash" bullshit, probably without even watching it all the way through. I know that if I was a person, desperately clinging to my faith blanket, I couldn't make it through the first three minutes without pausing it to take the thumb out of my mouth so I could run it.

Answer the first question. Why is god's plan so preposterously unbelievable? Defend your god, ask him to help you make us understand. I challenge you.

Including the bits left out deliberately over the ages?
