Though he was well aware of the child rape going on at the time, it's not actually true that Ratzinger did nothing. He issued an order to keep the matter quiet. Rather proactive, really.

That's a very good point: so, by conflating the two in the way he did, that cardinal was actually endorsing same-sex marriage in a backhanded sort of way. I wonder if he realised the implications of what he said? Think we ought to tell him?
