A couple of points, that's not a doctrine of the catholic church, and many of the protestant cults don't adhere to it either. I believe that those who do base it on Eph 5:22-23, which speaks of the husband-wife relationship.

As far as I know, nothing in thier dusty old book says your mother-in-law can't be a bitch.

I would have as little to do with her as humanly possible. Your wife would have to understand that there is no middle ground here.
