To which extend can you enjoy things, until you get bored?
Or until you have no further economic means to reach new things?

That depends on the person.

I've never been particularly wealthy and was brought up in a poor (economically poor) environment. Life being so rare, near impossible, living for the sake of living should be a fair motivation. As much as life is pointless, early death is unnecessary.

If we could genetically modify ourselves, I think I'd be content to live for a few hundred more years without getting "bored." Seeing the planet, or planets if we ever make it off this rock, learning new things, witnessing new technologies and human achievements... It makes it all worthwhile in a way.

Well, I don't think I need to taste more than I did of the worlds pleasures, as I think that living for the sake of seeking pleasure does not really make life worthwile, for me at least. For that reason, I've sought out to reshape my life to fit a purpose, and to work towards purpose. I find happiness in whatever steps I can take in the realization of that purpose.
So here I am, at a crossroads.
I seek to make my life as long as possible as far as I can serve that purpose, but if I were required to lay it down, I'd do so happily.

This is why most of you lot are living empty, worthless and sinful lives that will amount to nothing and why people like me have lives that are full, content and secure in the knowledge that we are saved.
Preach the gospel; sometimes use words. I advise you to reflect on whether the words you use or the ideas you express match the doctrine of love you presumably espouse. If you are truly trying to witness for Christ then you must present yourself with humility and grace.

If that's the case, I want out now! How fucking depressing that would be to think that the only reason we were created was to be worship-slaves for God & Jesus. No wonder God gets so pissed off at the people who reject this idea that he sends them to hell.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

The purpose of life is to fuck. To do that you need to eat. To do that you need to not be eaten. Having covered those last two, why we still talking? Big Grin

Count me on the side of the one-size-does-not-fit-all response.

As a straight, white guy I used to feel left out of the burning purpose that others found in over coming repression of one stripe or another. Now I'm grateful for that. I guess my personal purpose in life is to find what makes life fulfilling and meaningful when there is nothing in the way. I'd like to think eventually everyone will have this opportunity. In the mean time I intend to claim it for myself.

There is no experience of being non-life to allow for such a quantification. There's some common conception without common sense. Life ain't precious, it is ubiquitous; and everything that is is of necessity less than I. Get yer Escher out and follow these numbers: I is 1, yet only one of the 7,000,000 you is my Gwynnies. Greater than I and the universe that contains the we. Problems begin when I am the 1 that speaks for my Gwynnies. Problems end when we realize there is no point; there's a sphere. Wink
