What brought you to the site?

What brought you to the site?
My story is not that great, I felt alone being an atheist in a small town where everyone is strong believers in creation. So I typed "Atheist Forums" in to google and I ended up here.

So whats your story?
Atheism is a non-prophet organisation. - A dusty old book that I found that must be completely true because someone wrote it down.

RE: What brought you to the site?
My desire to interact with like-minded individuals brought me to this site. Being the most popular site in its niche, its natural to join atheistforums.org. I am also a member of other atheist communities, but this is where I am most active.

RE: What brought you to the site?
I wanted to peek into the minds of other atheists, and express my thoughts in an open manner to people who wouldn't look at me/treat me like I had just murdered a little puppy. So I googled "atheist forums". Now, here I am.

RE: What brought you to the site?
I was wanting to discuss something that I read with other atheists. I brought it here, shared it and eventually became a regular member. I had my timeline here all mixed up, but the other day Tib figured out I was here for about six months and became a staff member. I haven't been away from the forum for more than a few days since.

Like most people (I assume) I Googled atheist forums. I wanted a bit more ammo in my arsenal to argue with believers - not that the opportunity comes up very often IRL - and after lurking here for a while I realised this is a good place to be for compelling arguments. Lots of clever people here Smile

That is hypocrisy of the most laughable kind." Derren Brown - Tricks of the Mind.

I was a member of AF.com and one day my computer refused to connect to that site.

While searching around to try to find out what happened to it ( I thought the site was gone) I found AF.org and I have been here ever since. Now I rarely go to AF.com even though the problem has cleared up.

A Link on the JREF website.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Welcome.

My story is the same as yours. I went to google and searched for an atheist forum. And this is the one that I liked the most.
Well, I just thought it would be more interesting to talk to people who are outside my own religion.

My story is a little more dramatic. Like a few others here, I'm a refugee from other forae. I started out at the famous EvilBible and hung out there for a good long time until the Great Meltdown. Basically the owner, Chris, a ban-happy guy with a short fuse at the best of times, threw a major shit fit and began banning some of the long-term regulars for little or no reason. Others quit the forum in protest and were banned in absentia. Finally the whole thing went belly-up and hasn't been revived.

After that, many of the survivors drifted over to Connecticut Valley Atheists (CVA) whose forum became our home for some time. Then the management seemed to lose interest in maintaining the forum and we attracted more and more spam, despite the best efforts of Picco, our admin. When he stepped down, his replacement (whose name escapes me) turned out to be as useful as an inflatable dartboard, consistently refusing to do anything about the spam until we were swimming in it. Many drifted away to another site, the name of which I won't reveal here as it is more of a private forum and I respect that. Anyway, I made the leap to here after being invited by Min; just in time, it seems, as CVA has finally sunk under the weight of all the porn and gentleman's enhancements.

My other regular long-time haunt while all this has been going on is JesusNeverExisted.org, which in recent weeks has sadly become a ghost town. I still pop in to show it some love from time to time.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I joined AF.com and AF.org pretty much at the same time after a Google search for "atheist forums". I felt more at home here than there.
