They seem contradictory, but scientists are searching for a way to unify them. Nobody is really saying that relativity is wrong because of quantum mechanics or vice versa.

Maybe we should do the same about faith and reason. What if there is a theory of everything that unifies them and those who fight for one or the other are both wrong? How can we know?

There already is a unifying theory of reason and faith. We evolved the ability to reason and imagine.
Part of that created anthropomorphic assumption as part of the danger reflex, looking for explanations for things we couldn't reason.
That created faith in those explanations and thereby primitive religions.

If you’re going to watch tele, you should watch Scooby Doo. That show was so cool because every time there’s a church with a ghoul, or a ghost in a school. They looked beneath the mask and what was inside?

Well, I'm glad I got a bunch of responses, but I was hoping for less insult and more thought.

Most of you seem to think that your trump card is reason, but how do you know that reason explains everything? I intended part of my question to ask: what if reason does not explain everything and faith is necessary? How can you KNOW that is not true?

Also, there is no scientific evidence that man made God up. At least I have never heard any. It's just a theory, and not a scientific one at that.

It doesn't so you fail straight out of the block there

You're a troll yes??

What makes you think that you are capable of a) reason and b) faith to explain why you are on this board typing away?

How do you KNOW that faith is true?? I is a PERSONAL thing. Yes??

What planet/ time period are you from??

Clearly you were asleep in science class ...otherwise you will KBNOW what a "Scientific Theory" entails.

After all...gravity is "Just a theory" so that means you are leaping out of tall buildings ALL the time?? After all "It's Just a Theory"

No, a theory is an idea proposed to account for the evidence.

Faith is an idea proposed in the absence of any evidence, or even in opposition to the evidence.

I never said "Scientific Theory." I did not capitalize theory. A dictionary would show that there are other ways to use the word theory. I said it was NOT a scientific theory.

I am currently in college. And your insults are little amusing considering I'm female. Smile

The UK is pretty bad, just not as much. The teen birthrate is accurate, just take a stroll to the town centre, prams fucking everywhere! Very young women behind them.

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

So where is faith necessary?

When does it adequately explain ANYTHING?
