Please don't tar atheists with the same brush. As Cinjin said we don't always agree any more (or perhaps even less) than other groups do. If you're criticising specific people's comments please name them and don't say "many" atheists. If your argument is that many enlightenment figures were Christians of one persuasion or another I think you'll be pushing an open door with most of us. To me it's not entirely clear what point you're trying to establish.

When anyone - atheist or otherwise - makes an incorrect claim don't automatically jump to the conclusion that they're being intellectually dishonest or self deceiving. Sometimes people are wrong because they've been misinformed or are unaware of other related information. Attacking them as delusional or deliberately deceptive isn't going to get us anywhere. It's a bad idea to make assumptions about the intentions of many people who 1) don't think collectively and 2) whose motivations we don't have access to or the requisite information to infer them.
