Greetings from Texas!
Hello everyone!
My name is Scott and I am from the state of Texas, which if I understand correctly isn't known for having a ton of free-thinkers. As fate would have it, I actually attend a Christian High School, so some interesting conversations come up despite the fact that I am not openly atheist around that group of people. I've actually been aware of this forum for a while but just got around to joining because I wanted to have some engaging and informative conversations with others about politics, philosophy, human psychology, ethics, religion, and how to be an "apologist" for atheism in a overwhelmingly born-again Christian community. I am an ex-Presbyterian, a die-hard Communist, social activist, philosophy enthusiast and above all an audiophile and a fan of music of many styles and genres. I hope to hear from you all soon and hope my stay here is a good one! Big Grin

We can agree to disagree on the matter of political orientation, no? I am staunchly atheistic and have been so since I was 13. For the reason that religions fail to address the problem of evil.

Hiya Engel! You sound like a couple of friends of mine. I don't always agree with them, but they sure have a lot to talk about, so I hope the same can be said about you. Smile Welcome!
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Welcome aboard mate.
I just posted about this... My daughter would dispute your comment that evil even exists Wink
