RE: Message from American to Europeans
You will find European atheists outside of England (maybe Scotland as well) don't really care about atheism the way Americans do....they don't aim to have atheism become a replacement for religion, they just aim to live their lives without giving a fuck about religion one way or the other....that is one of many reasons why atheism has had so much success in Europe compared to the United States.

Why waste your life trying to disprove religion when you can simply live your life? That's what is so attractive about them.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

Waste my life...how much time do you think it takes me to write a post detailing precisely why any given religious fuckwit is out of line? How long do you think it took me to write this post Polaris?

Herein, again, lies one of the things that frustrate me. Religious motherfuckers actually think that it takes effort or time to debunk their hilarious bullshit, it doesn't. It's a cheap and convenient hobby.

(as far as jealousy and Europe, for the rest of us..let me say that I've been all over Europe and you know what struck me the most? How much it all reminded me of home. Thousands of miles crossed by wing or wheel and the place I ended up was so familiar to me, so utterly unremarkable....I don't know yall, maybe this is just a "grass is greener" issue?)
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

As a Brit who has always lived in England, religion isn't often mentioned. Those who are religious tend to keep it to themselves, and some that believe in god couldn't give a shit about religion. If we had religious nuts shoving their shit down our throats regularly, things probably would of been much different. The difference between here and the US is that the religious tend to keep their shit to themselves....usually.

Seeing as no one really cares about religion, even many of the religious there isn't a problem. Also there is never a need to try and disprove religion because religious claims have never been proven to begin with. Just dismiss it as baseless shit.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

I lived a long time in the UK. I have an Irish passport through my Grandmother so I can come and go anywhere in the European Union at will.

I like that in the UK that politicians make no reference to their religion (except Tony Blair), it just isn't a topic for conversation.

What I find disturbing is the bending over backwards to Muslims that the State TV service does and the police under-investigating crime committed by Muslims out fear of being called racist.

Yeah, Political Correctness is too big a thing here. David Cameron also made some references to his religion - saying Britain is a christian country and that we shouldn't be afraid to say it - but the worst of the current lot is Baroness Warsi, with her "militant secularism" nonsense.
