I'm so sorry cato, it appeared to be very obvious that you didn't get that, as taken in that context all of your questions are clearly answered to me. Let me look at your questions again and see if I can't help clear it up for you.

"They" = the OP and anyone who's environment influences them to be atheists.

Of course, Maher and Griffin can't be compared to Darwin and Dawkins, but as long as they manage to promote atheism, cheap comedy or not, and do not hide their views, I think they deserve a cookie.

And if you think Maher and Griffin are promoting atheism...I'm a pretty skeptical person; if I weren't a Christian, I'd probably be a secular humanist. But I would never associate myself ideologically with assholes like Bill Maher or Richard Dawkins.

What the hell do the religious have against Richard Dawkins?
Dawkins isn't an asshole, he isn't an idiot, and he sure as hell isn't incompetant.
Bill Maher is an asshole. Sure. He doesn't get a pass just because he is a comedian. Personally I think of him as self-righteous, a trait that the religious have all but a monopoly on; I won't see Maher as anything but an ass anytime soon.
But Dawkins simply lays it all on the table. He says it how he sees it. He isn't an idiot or an asshole- he is simply blunt. Rather than condemn him, I commend him for his bluntness. We need a man today that can simply take religion for what it is: an anti-intellectual, unjustified, yet unalarming (for the most part) phenomena.
My conclusion is that there is no reason to believe any of the dogmas of traditional theology and, further, that there is no reason to wish that they were true.
Man, in so far as he is not subject to natural forces, is free to work out his own destiny. The responsibility is his, and so is the opportunity.

Sure, Bill Maher is a dick, and he has never had anything really worthwhile to say about religion. He is, however, funny as fuck. "New Rules" is always good for a laugh.
As for Dawkins, I have only read part of "The Greates Show on Earth." In fact, I didn't even know who he was until South Park did an episode on him.
