And I think it's a religious endeavour as much as any other, in that it's an honest search for meaning.

Ooooh, I love this! Its sooooo.... predictable. I post something, you respond to the post just underneath it convieniantly missing mine and then I repeat it so theres no possibility that you could of missed it! I'd call it a coincidence if it didn't happen everytime I presented an inconvenient question.
Its great to have a routine. :-)

"So by that definition you'd class philosophy as a religious endeavour too?"

Deer jerky, taking a shit, and going commando, all religious endeavours. Each of them more worthwhile than any fairy-tale horseshit.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I'm not.

I'm content with the universe being meaningless.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

In itself, atheism is no such thing,it is only a disbelief in gods, as well you should know by now hobbitt.

OF course some people who are atheist are probably ALSO searching for meaning, but such a thing is not implied and may not be inferred.. I am not searching for meaning. I am pretty much convinced that life simply 'is' with no meaning or purpose other than itself. However, that position is the result of skepticism, as is my atheism.

I think coming to that conclusion required some thought on it. It's a strong resolve I think.

Likewise theism is only a position on deity. Nothing else. A theist need not be associated with anything else either.

We have something in common, atheists and theists... we both have a position on deity. Position implies reason. We must have thought about it to reach a descision, wouldn't you agree?

People with no position on deity are the only ones who could claim immunity.

Thought =/= reason. A position implies a conclusion, not the manner in which it was reached.
