Democratic Party drops "God" in its platform

RE: Democratic Party drops "God" in its platform
Clinton saying "god" all the time isn't very surprising to me. Shit, I do it all the time, myself. I don't really put any meaning in the word, and if anything it's taken on a cynical, sarcastic sort of meaning.

A_T, I would like to point out that the US is one of the most religiously active nations in the developed world, and leads the world in evangelism. And we're also considered by the entire world to be a titanic implosion being viewed in slow-motion. It's a pretty sad facet of believers that the non-inclusion and secularization of a voting party will sway them away from it. If you need god that much that the very lack-of-mention is all it takes to swing you away to the other party just because they do mention god, you're pretty "god-damn" pathetic.

It's funny. The religious love to spew bullshit about how it is our lack of faith in god that is turning this country astray, yet all statistics point to areas with greater numbers of non-believers generally being more intelligent, less blinded by nationalism, and committing lower crimes of all kinds [other than marijuana-related, I can only assume], whereas the areas with the most fervent, ardent believers have the highest crime rates, lowest education scores, and generally are just less pleasant places to be if you find any truth in cold hard numbers [which you should unless you're a twit]. I also can't help but notice that the louder and more prominent the evangelicals have gotten politically in this country, the worse this country has gotten. Fuckin' George Bush was basically the embodiment of evangelical christians having their way with policy-making. And oh, let's just look at how much that godly dicksucking did for us- OH SHIT IT FUCKING TANKED OUR ECONOMY, FOREIGN POLICY, AND FEDERAL FISCAL BALANCING HOLY SHIT WHO WOULD'VE GUESSED.

I'm not expecting much in the ways of intelligence from you though, A_T. I'm pretty sure you just don't like Obama for the sole reason of he's a democrat. Very deep thinking comes from you on a daily basis, I am sure.

In truth, the Christian-Democrats of Europe, although still conservative, are not known to use religion as a means of gaining votes.
Such things are anti-democratic, and anti-secular by default.
Not to say that people ought to take a negative stance towards religion as part of their platforms, but a completely neutral stance.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm not going to tell anyone to stop believing but we in the US seriously need to get the wall between Church and State built up much higher because Church has been invading State a lot lately.

Quote:One could no more formulate good public policy by taking a neutral stance on religion as one could by taking a neutral stance on murder, fraud, and gross child abuse.
Meaning you lump religion along with crimes such as murder, fraud and child abuse?
Obviously you did not understand my words.
Quote:Belief in God and the Judeo / Christian faith is still very much a part of our culture here with 76% to 80% of Americans identifying themselves as Christians. Though most don't consider it paramount in their lives, "A majority of Americans report that religion plays a "very important" role in their lives,". I don't think that dropping God from their party platform and dropping the line that stated Jerusalem is and always shall be the capital of Israel is going to go over very well with some voters. Anything that leftist Democrats can do to undermine themselves is fine with me....
It might not be the best vote-magnet, but it's the right thing to do.
Besides, the subject of Israel and Jerusalem is a matter of foreign policy, not religion.
Religious freedom is based on religious neutrality by the government.

Besides, if you vote according to the religious policy of a party(positive or negative stance, doesn't matter), I believe you shouldn't vote at all, for it means you generally don't care about what real governance is, just what kind of a religious overtone the party carries with it.

When people think of secularism, they generally think of just seperating the church and state. Secularism also means that religion stays between the individual and his God. Other than the church having no power over the state, neither does the state have a power of the individual believer.

However, I'd say it's actually weird to hear that zionism is actually a part of political platforms of parties in the US. I wonder why.

Because we strongly support the Jewish state and we stand with Israel. As far as we're concerned, Jerusalem is Israel's capital.

Considering that conservative Christians are the most ardent supporters of Israel, I would say it has something to do with the bible.

Barack Obama intervenes and the new Democrat Party platform which at first excluded references to God and that also excluded the statement which said Jerusalem is the capital of Israel has been reversed. Obama is said to have questioned why references to God and Jerusalem were removed from the party platform to begin with. The Democrat Party platform has reinstated its references to God and Jerusalem.

America is so incredibly stupid. What has Israel and Jerusalem got to do with America? And they are Jews there, not Christians, for crying out loud. The Gospels say it's the Jews who crucified Jesus. So why is America behaving as if it's supportive of Christ's tormentors? Note: Not that I care two hoots what the Gospels say. I'm just surprised the US can flip-flop on this.

A third temple is required to be built on the temple mount in order to fulfull the rapture/end times fantasies longed for by fundamentalist Christians. The antichrist is supposed to announce himself as the savior in the rebuilt temple.

Politicians will of course say something along the lines of "Israel is important for the spread of democracy in the Middle East", but the reason I gave is precisely why Israel is so vital to the interests of the religious right.

I really can't believe that politicians can believe in religious claptrap and what is worse, apply it to their policies. The US will go down the drain if enlightenment doesn't come upon its people fast.

Yes, but I am asking why you support Jewish nationalism. Supporting the Jewish state is one thing, supporting their ideolgy is another.
As far as I'm concerned, the US is not a Jewish state, and was not founded by Jews either.
The fact that you have a Jewish minority does not mean that you ought to support a Jewish-exclusive ideology.

That is the reason why they support zionism, you say.

Well, not all, I'd say.
