Democratic Party drops "God" in its platform

Democratic Party drops "God" in its platform
From the Huffington Post.

Quote:In an interview broadcast tonight, CNN asked Obama adviser Robert Gibbs about the DNC platform dropping the word "God," which has been included in previous platforms.

The question, which asked if it was a deliberate decision to drop the word, was somewhat dodged by Gibbs. He said the platform mentions "faith and religion" and cited the "thousands of God-fearing Democrats in this building here tonight."

Since the platform was released, the lack of the word "God" has become a rallying cry among some conservatives, especially those who believe that the Obama administration is unfriendly to religion. The Republican platform, released last week, made at least a dozen references to God and included a section on religious liberty.

So as usual the conservatives refuse to budge from old, tired, archaic ideas, the democrats are trying to appease everyone but are finally ceasing the tired mantra of "god god god" that this country has been obsessed with for some reason for the last century or so, the republicans refuse to be appeased, and also dick-snakes.

Well, I believe that only parties who play for really vulgar agendas use the God factor in their platforms.
In truth, the Christian-Democrats of Europe, although still conservative, are not known to use religion as a means of gaining votes.
Such things are anti-democratic, and anti-secular by default.
Not to say that people ought to take a negative stance towards religion as part of their platforms, but a completely neutral stance.

I read somewhere that Clinton is the president who has mentioned god the most, ever. So this doesn't really surprise me.

He is a southern boy who thinks using the word "god" is charming, even if he uses the word god like a tissue for blowing his nose into.

One could no more formulate good public policy by taking a neutral stance on religion as one could by taking a neutral stance on murder, fraud, and gross child abuse.

Gee. You mean the same way the Founding Fathers left god out of the constitution?

How very interesting.

Sorry Chuck, although I would rather live in a world without religion (and I do to the best of my ability), what you're saying here is that religion is equal to murder, fraud and child abuse, and you'd see fit to actively tell people what to think and that religion is just as much a crime as these things.

This is fucking stupid.

Belief in God and the Judeo / Christian faith is still very much a part of our culture here with 76% to 80% of Americans identifying themselves as Christians. Though most don't consider it paramount in their lives, "A majority of Americans report that religion plays a "very important" role in their lives,". I don't think that dropping God from their party platform and dropping the line that stated Jerusalem is and always shall be the capital of Israel is going to go over very well with some voters. Anything that leftist Democrats can do to undermine themselves is fine with me....

Minor quibble about this obscure herbivore sect or that aside, If you think religion won't commit murder, fraud, and child abuse whenever it could get away with it in order to tell other what to think, you are fucking stupid.

And in the long run, those acts themselves would by no means be the most damaging consequences of religion upon mankind.

In The News:

Barack Obama intervenes and the new Democrat Party platform which at first excluded references to God and that also excluded the statement which said Jerusalem is the capital of Israel has been reversed. Obama is said to have questioned why references to God and Jerusalem were removed from the party platform to begin with. The Democrat Party platform has reinstated its references to God and Jerusalem.
