I realised at 10

RE: I realised at 10
You're lucky, Puddleglum.

I was heavily indoctrinated and didn't break free until 16 when I learned about Yahweh being a Caananite god. It all clicked into place after that. But others have to suffer and get bit by the snake many more times to figure it out because of places like Jesus Camp.

Not necessarily, but it's kind of incredible. My 6 year old asked why the bagel shop was closed during passover. I told him the basic story of passover, to which he responded, "That's just weird... That can't happen."

Apparently he has not watched a certain History Channel program then....

Yep. I started to have severe doubts between 7-10 but you know what that indoctrinations like when done properly. The second a rational thought enters your mind a siren goes off and a loud voice on a megaphone screaming "WRONG! IMMORALE! BURNING IN HELL ALERT! BURNING IN HELL ALERT!" to which the response is usually "Fuck, ok. Calm down. I believe, I believe."

That was basically my inner monologue till I got to secondary school... and read the entire Bible cover to cover during RE.
Yeeeeah. Now I'm not a critic but that has to be one of the worst fictional plots I've ever read and some things just didn't add up. Very lazily done, all over the place.
I mean not as bad as "The Da Vinci Code" but not far off. As a factual, historical document? Don't make me laugh.
Which by the way is what I did. Repeatedly. Until eventually the siren ran out of batteries and the voice from the megaphone was too hoarse to speak anymore, so many times they had been set off. By the time I got to the end... well... lets just say I was ready for some non-fiction. Tried other religions and their little books but no dice, I was allergic to bullshit by that time thanks to being exposed to an incredible amount already. Rest is history.

I've always thought that my Sunday School teachers were schizophrenic. It wasn't until I became a teen that I started crying "bullshit!" around arrogant/pretentious religious people.
You can't ignore the people who disagree and pretend it makes you right.

Never did, born into an atheist family of artists, But I started to realise the rest of the world was strange at school. The thing that really freaked me out some kids had parents that didn't draw anything, against that believing in a god seemed a minor issue.

I wish I could have figured it out earlier. We were quite the picturesque fundie family once upon a time. My father was the Pastor, my mother the Pastors wife (best title a lady could get), my sister took Sunday school, and I was was the pianist in the worship group. I'd give anything to get some of those years back!

The grass always looks greener on the other side. Remember I can't say I thought it through for myself like you can.

You may have liked the 1950s.

What History Channel Program? I typically don't watch the History Channel and am not familiar with their programming.
