Maybe they're trying to appease both the gay rights people and the homophobes. Actually, given the circumstances, it seems like a wise decision.

Yeah, I do think that's what they're going for. Get the conservatives all worked and quietly concede afterward. Honestly, I think very little will actually change, though. Their president Dan Cathy is still highly homophobic. Now he'll be making donations to hate groups in his own name instead of in the company name. Which means money spent at Chick-fil-a will still be used to fund hate groups, but less directly.

All well and good (at least for Chick-Fil_A...which is NOT Dan Cathy). It was a poor PR decision on their part. Let a persons personal bigotry remain a possession of their person, not the purvey of a business which employs and is relied upon by others who may not share in it (but would nevertheless be threatened by it).

My boyfriend works for Wal*Mart, so my own financial well being says I can't be involved in this one.

Truth be told, Wally World has been getting a lot better, at least as far as GLBT people's go. For example, about a year ago, they added 'transgender' to their employee non discrimination policy. Plus, pretty much everyone he works with knows we're together and nobody ever gives him any grief over it.

My mom works for them too, and they've gotten better about being "green," as well... I just have a deep, personal hatred of Wal*Mart.

It is good that Chick Fil A has learned that personal politics and business do not mix.

I am perfectly at ease with them individually donating to their sundry causes.

It forces them to make a stand instead of cowering behind their company trough.

A victory for personal responsibility over using a company as your own billy club.
