"New Posts" Seems to Miss A Lot

RE: "New Posts" Seems to Miss A Lot
"New posts" basically refers to the new posts that have been made since your last "visit". These get cleared pretty quickly, as new posts are made when you are "visiting" and MyBB places more importance on these.

The "Today's Posts" search is my preferred option, since it will always show the posts made in the last 24 without fail (or you can change that time period by adding "&days=x" to the search URL: http://atheistforums.org/search.php?action=getdaily

So if you want to see all the posts in the last week, click this: http://atheistforums.org/search.php?acti...ily&days=7

I've had a look at the unread posts plugin, but it looks quite bloated for what people need.

Your second sentence may contain the answer to what I'm observing, but I don't completely understand it. MyBB places more importance on posts made while I'm visiting? But anything that changes should show up in my "New Posts" queue.

The fact that so many people are reporting that they use today's posts instead of new posts suggests to me that others have experienced the same issue. The two should only differ in that a thread with no new entries since last viewed would not appear in it. Why would you want to look at that thread then? I get that you might want to just see what's being discussed that day, but aren't most people, most of the time, just interested to see what's changed?

I believe (not sure though) to save processing power, MyBB keeps a cache of search results. New results are simply appended to this cache, and then the cache is cleared every x minutes. This leads to old (read) results showing in the new posts search.

"New Posts" is good enough...although if I click on it and go off to answer an email they are gone when I get back.

That actually happens a lot....but I can live with it.
