What does it mean to be spiritual?

RE: What does it mean to be spiritual?
"spirituel" is assosiated here with people in their midlifecrisis, like my former neighbour, who go out and buy a "power pyramid" for 3000 euros, wich is basicaly a glasspyramide underwich you are supposed to stand and "the engeryforce of the universe runs through your body and correects your energyfield". Or buy glaspebbles for 500 to 1000 euros wich creates a "energyfield" in your livingroom so you can live with "positive energy" surrounding you.
in short esoteric nonsence.

A lot of Christians would read this and say "That is not only silly it is a rip off", but magic babies, thats perfectly sane.

A lot of Muslims would say "That is silly and a rip off" but rivers of milk and wine and harems in heaven, that is quite sane.

A lot of Jews would say "That is silly and a rip off" but magially blessing food will prevent your privates from falling off.

A lot of Hindus would look at that and say "That is silly and a rip off" but an elephant god is perfectly sane.

And we are the crazy ones for rejecting all these scams?

RE: What does it mean to be spiritual?
Any time someone says they are spiritual, I assume that means they are searching for a perspective on life that is beyond that of one fully embodied human. I assume they are looking for intellectual conquest of feeling and emotion. I assume they believe there is an intellectually graspable answer to the question of a meaningful life which is external to themselves but to which they can adapt themselves. With any luck, it will just be a phase and they can return to being curious about who in particular they are and find satisfaction in that.

@ Brian 37, you must have stopped reading my post at the end of the first line. It's for sure you pay no attention to the things I express about my Christian beliefs, maybe you should before you try to talk me out of something I know as fact. IMO it would be preaching to do so, but then who am I, a Christian on an atheist site out numbered 50 to 1.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

How many suffering martyr points was that one worth...I'm unclear as to how this game is scored GC.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

You are right. You don't have to get even past page one of any holy book to know they are comic books, starting with the naked assertion that invisible beings are real.

"Beliefs" are not nor will ever constitute evidence.

There are NO facts about what you believe other than humans have had a history of believing those things. You have as much evidence for your god as any other made in human history, which is NONE.

Pleading "why don't you believe me" is not evidence. Wanting something to be real is not eviendence. You have nothing and merely don't want to face it.

YOU HAVE NO FACTS. If you did you could take them to the patient office and win a nobel prize. You'll have as much luck as every other human in doing that with ANY invisible friend claimed in human history.

That one believes that supernatural 'sprit' exists, akin to 'soul'. I've come across many different forms; the well-known ideas of ghosts, paganisms that imbue non-animal life with 'spirit', Gaeans who believe that the entire world is one super-consciousness (and by extention that scales-up to galactic & universal super-consciousnesses), fairy (or faery) celebrators... as many as people with imaginations.

Problem is, it's all supernaturalism therefore can't be evidenced.
