I always found this story amusing..... but then I am a notorious prick.

Quote:LOUISBURG, N.C. — A veteran sky diver who fell 10,500 feet to his death apparently forgot to wear a parachute in his excitement to film other sky divers, police said Monday after seeing footage taken by the man during his final free fall.

Ivan Lester McGuire, 35, of Durham died in the bizarre accident Saturday.

McGuire was filming a jump by other parachutists. Footage recorded by a voice-activated camera attached to his helmet led investigators to believe McGuire did not realize he was without a parachute.

Idiot got what he deserved. Shocking that no one else noticed, too. Each time I've jumped, the person behind me in the plane checked to make sure my pins were in their proper position & my pilot chute was tucked away properly. This is usually the case for each jumper.

Fail on all accounts.

Back when I was working my lunch crowd used to have a "Stupid Ways To Die" contest. This would consist of reading the papers every day to see if someone could beat the current champion.

This fellow was champ for a very long time. As I recall he was de-throned by an old guy in Rochester, NY who was found on his screened in front porch with his ass stuck in a garbage can. Police theorized that he fell backwards into the can and could not build up enough momentum to free himself by tipping it over. He died of exposure.

A postman reported seeing the old guy waving so he waved back. The postman was quoted as saying that "he felt real bad about what happened."

Because there is distance to the ground, man. Is that not enough? Big Grin

Did do gliding a few years ago, that was fun.

Did 10 dives myself. Hang glided. Have pilot's license. Was in a hotair balloon that crashed. Talked risk averse fiancee into skydiving.

I see. By deploying human chaff, a pilot can avoid incoming fire. Tongue

Nahh, humans don't reflect radar, and arn't hot enough to attract heat seeking missiles. Can not be safer when confronted with hostile integrated air defense system than bailing out and parachuting to the ground.
