More participation would depend on people being pragmatic instead of voting on chiches or party loyalty. I just talked to a college aged co worker voting for Romney. Her reason, "I think he would make a great president", but followed it up with the fact that she does NOT pay attention to issues long term. Eeven after explaining to her his 360 two faced turn from right wing to "comman man" she still scoffed at me like I was nuts.

If the ellectorate were involved and pragmatic, I would have less fear, but in an age of 30 second consumption marketing media that sells ice to Eskimos, skepticism with eternal vigilance is the only way to insure reducing absurdity gaining absolute rule.
