My dumbass parents doubt evolution

RE: My dumbass parents doubt evolution
Welcome. In your introductory post you indicated that you have been learning from YT videos. I just want to encourage your continuing discovery. As you become an adult you will likely have to defend your knowledge. The following link is an excellent resource for evolution and associated religious apologetics.

http://www.talkorigins.org/

I also recommend Hume's 'Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion' as an introduction to the philosophical side of the theological debate. I'm posting the wiki link. You can find copies in the external link section at the bottom.

I was about to make a smutty joke here but decided in the end it was way too obvious. Can you guess what it was?

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

Grab 5-8 copies of The Origin of Species and bundle them into a brick. Then, put the brick in a pillowcase and thwack your parents over the head several times.

Lol. I really feel like doing that sometimes Smile

Normally I am appalled by closeted Atheists, by unfortunately in the U.S. parents hold waaay too much power over their teenage children. Basically your parents can force you to go to Jesus-camp, or whatever they feel like. So I agree that you should just wait until you are independent to discuss it. Also I wouldn't make a big deal about it when you do, because being an Atheist isn't a big deal. Just mention it casually in a conversation some time. If you are interested in having a relationship with your parents as an adult (and I believe not having one is perfectly viable) then I'd avoid the word dumbass also.

I'm 16 and my parents are fundamental christians. They do not believe in evolution.
I haven't even told them I believe in evolution!
(They'd flip out and send me to talk to one of our pastors)
...they don't even know I'm atheist

What about evolution do you actually believe - and why?

Dear Truth, the theory of evolution does not require belief.

Keep deceiving them. Take delight in it. It's what they would dearly love to have their bible do with them.

Welcome Hitch96, you addressed these people as free thinkers yet they want you to be a closet thinker. This should tell you something about them, they do not have good advice.

I have been waiting for someone to say that, truth is it takes faith and lots of it.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Tell me something GC. When exactly were you in this kid's shoes? What qualifies you to offer him advice? Many of the atheists on this site have been in his shoes. For many of them the consequences of coming out to their religious parents were nothing short of disastrous. Yet here you are telling him to ignore them and listen to you. Do this kid a favor GC and fuck off.
