This is news?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14321787/ns/...NPKAneulhE

Quote:Depleted uranium is the garbage left from producing enriched uranium for nuclear weapons and energy plants. It is 60 percent as radioactive as natural uranium. The U.S. has an estimated 1.5 billion pounds of it, sitting in hazardous waste storage sites across the country. Meaning it is plentiful and cheap as well as highly effective.

Reed says he unknowingly breathed DU dust while living with his unit in Samawah, Iraq. He was med-evaced out in July 2003, nearly unable to walk because of lightning-strike pains from herniated discs in his spine. Then began a strange series of symptoms he'd never experienced in his previously healthy life.

This article is dated 2006.

Quote:The Department of Defense says depleted uranium is powerful and safe, and not that worrisome.

Well, there you have it. How can anyone argue with the DoD?

Images not as disturbing as the profiles of the Republican hopefuls running for the presidency

Not necessarily "breaking news"

What I like about this article is how it shows a detailed picture of the entire situation, how depleted uranium was already used there in the 90s. How Saddam trashed the place aswell, and how the west is completly ignoring the situation. It also shows, in detail, the long term effects.

News is not always breaking news. In this case one has to admit, that it is a story which has been willfully ignored by the west. So I have great respect for those journalists, who instead of trying to get the best pictures and insight of the most recent story, remind the public of stories which it chose to forget.

Difference is, that happened some years ago.
And, it was kind of "rebuilt":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bibliotheca_Alexandrina

In this case here, "depleted uranium" is still used. And those who authorised it`s use have still not been held for accountability. Aswell as, most importently, victims havent jet been payed compensation.

So theres 3 things which one shouldnt simply ignore.

Sick American veterans have been trying to force the government to admit the culpability of DU for a long time.

You see, when you reach my age you tend to recall similar situations from several wars earlier.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agent_Orange

Quote:While in Vietnam, the veterans were told not to worry, and were persuaded the chemical was harmless.[50] After returning home, Vietnam veterans began to suspect their ill health or the instances of their wives having miscarriages or children born with birth defects might be related to Agent Orange and the other toxic herbicides to which they were exposed in Vietnam.

Yeah....same shit - different decade.

Sometimes I wish there really was a Hell.

I remember hearing a song in High School, Black Sabbath I think was the band, and a line where the "war pigs" cowered as they faced judgment for their crimes. It would be nice if Cheney, et. al. faced justice for what they've done.

...but then I think about the where-the-fuck-is-that-heavenly-justice-while-all-the-crimes-happen-on-earth problem with that model for reality.
