Yep that comment surprised me to. Is North Korea really a shining example of "tolerant" atheists? Is China? It's all culturally based, and until you look past your own culture you will of course see things the way they are in your own back yard. This is why the yanks consistently think that Christianity and "Bible Belt" are synonymous.

They are not atheists, their superstition is worship of the state, and to me that is no different than worship of a god. I'd like to see in the future, not that it is defined as such now, but "atheist" should simply mean rejection of any an all non empirical naked assertions. North Korea has it's own religion in their political party and their god is their head of state.
Christopher Hitchens in his speeches and in his books often equated God and heaven as "A celestial North Korea".
"Atheist" is a position. It says nothing about whether an individual will be empathetic or aggressive. It matters not to me that the totality of North Korea rejects standard myth or superstition, their cult of party and state is itself a superstition.

^ No it isn't. North Korea is more atheist than any other country on Earth, regardless of whether or not heads of state are "worshiped".

Um, don't be daft. They believe their leader is a god. Even he himself believes that. It has nothing to do with being worshiped and everything to do with being a deity.

Atheist is a position, not a political party or a religion. Otherwise ATHEIST Christopher Hitchens would not have consistently and rightfully condemned North Korea.
North Korea's god was it's party and head of state and just as superstitious. Dogma is dogma and worship is worship. And lemmings are lemmings.
