Fundamental flaw in the creation/evolution debate

Fred Phelps is perhaps the best Christian I've ever known, as he properly represents the psychopathic nature of your religion.

RE: Fundamental flaw in the creation/evolution debate
When I was a Christian, I totally believed that the earth is as old as it appears to be scientifically, and that evolution was the mechanism for how creation came about. I just thought it was all started--the spark--by the god of the bible, and earth was designed specifically for mankinds' prosperity. I was wrong, in my opinion. But has anyone figured out what started the big bang? Forgive my uneducated question, I know I'm out of my league but I still want to ask itTongue
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

I think it's going to be awhile before we understand what started it; it will require an understanding of physics much less crude than what we currently have.

This makes young-earth creationism all the more galling. We are distracted from examining the hole in the ground by people who can't tell it apart from their own assholes.

RE: Fundamental flaw in the creation/evolution debate
Having grown up in a very fundy christian family, I can give you the answers that they will either reply with or will actually talk about behind closed doors.

You can see it implied throughout the old testament, but John 1 spells it out: 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God....blah..blah..blah.

Basically, the power of god comes from his spoken word. I sat through so many chicken/egg discussions but instead they were word of God/God.

Anyway - Later, through the gospels, it proclaims that you can have the power of a god... take a look at Mark 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that the fundy theist doesn't want to know any more. Anything they learn that could cast doubt in their heart on how something was done starts to put a wedge not just between them and god, but between them becoming supernatural beings.... right here on earth. At the meetings I would hear crap like "I cured cancer of everyone I touched today" or how much money they made..

The bottom line is any education, any knowledge, starts to separate them from their inheritance of becoming a superhero right here on earth.

But that is the bottom line. Believe in the word. Have no doubt.. and you can do anything you say.....

I'm still not sure why we haven't seen this really working yet.... must be this damn science stuff.

Cheers
