Strictly speaking and following this train of thought, the future can't be something we made up if it hasn't happened yet. At most it can only be something we will make up, though even that's inaccurate if there is only the present - in that case, the future will be something we will have made up and then only as it happens; by which time it will be too late to call it the present.

I really must stop watching Doctor Who (the proper series, not this RTD and Moffatt pantomime crap).
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

You'd be surprised what a woman can do with the right Data.

That claim was pretty much proven in the 1970's.

The present is the only moment of time you can experience so that's the only moment of time that will exist for you, though you can sort of experience the past by remembering it. Some people think they can see future events the same way but they're probably crackers.

It is very clear to me now that it will be an asteroid that will ultimately kill humanity unless we can enhance our magnetic field.

Meh.
With technology today we'll be able to spot something large enough to kill all humans a fair distance away and be able to react accordingly.

And no no nuking it, that'll just make matters worst.

Most likely situation would be flying a space ship thingy close to it in order to over a period of time slowly alter it's course so that it misses earth.
