I was a Poe (sort of)

RE: I was a Poe (sort of)
People have been banned for trolling, yes. Poeing it up can include trolling, but not necessarily, and I don't think he crossed that line.

As for theists pretending to be atheists, I don't recall any recently. But of those I do recall, there was a great deal of debate regarding whether any rules had been broken, and IIRC, a consensus wasn't reached until things got way out of hand.

That being said, I don't feel strongly about this instance either way. In terms of disruption, this one hardly registered on the troll-o-meter.

Oh, I was under the impression that lying and posting those lies repeatedly to conduct a social experiment, get laughs at the expense of others who are replying sincerely or whatever other weird reason a person has to be a Poe is trolling, as it is done to provoke a reaction from others. I'm not advocating any action, but the "it's all good" mentality is not in line with the rules of the forum, the precedent for handling trolls and really the communities reaction to theist trolls and the April Fool's Day prank. The only reason I say anything is not because nothing was presumably done, as I would not have advocated it for such a tame instance, but the fact that not one single authority was like, "Hey, dude. That's not cool." in defense of all the people who responded sincerely, wasting their time. Ah, well. Just an observation.

It's a fair observation, Shell. I believe I misunderstood you at first, but we're clear now. If I came across as having an "it's all good" attitude, I apologize.

I didn't mean to sound stern enough to warrant an apology. Big Grin To be fair, I don't want to make the new guy feel like a total ass, either. Just an ass cheek.

I agree. I also remember that a few Poes were banned before. However, this one is a little different because he hardly caused any disruption as Cthulhu mentioned and secondly, he quickly admitted that he was Poe like just a week later after joining and before getting any warnings or anything. Had he continued being some kind of a Poe, and the staff members came to a consensus that he was a Poe, then we would have surely banned him, sooner or later.

Being a poe/troll is definitely not cool. It is disruptive and just wasting other people's time.

The apology was intended to be directed towards anyone who felt the response was inappropriate.

Are you sure it isn't cool? Tiger

Because I kinda like thinking that it is. Thinking
Please give me a home where cloud buffalo roam
Where the dear and the strangers can play
Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
But the skies are not stormy all day

Yeah, it's not cool ... but, okay, I admit that they can be entertaining to watch sometimes. Tongue

I don't know that I would classify him as a poe (assuming that what he's saying now is true).

Poe implys trolling, mockery or satire, no? Here we have a person trying to change his own faith by arguing from the point of view of a theist (playing devil's advocate? Tongue)
Nemo me impune lacessit.
