Generally, yes, but there are superseding principles applicable.

We don't believe in "eternity of nothingness". Atleast not all of us.

Do it if you want to.

How does this connection take place in your mind?

The only thing which an atheist requires to call him or herself an atheist is a rejection of deities.

Nothing more at all.

If one cherrishes life or not is a decision made by an atheist which is not impacted by his or her atheism because there is no "atheist dogma" demanding a certain position on that subject from them.

Quote:And do you think an "eternity of nothingness" is not 'harsh' enough punishment for the worst offenders? These are arguments I have heard before.

an eternity of existing with you is a punishment aswell.

Modern prison systems do not seek punishment but resocialisation and the protection of the public.

punishment for the sake of feeding someones need for revenge or setting a public statement can stay in the medieval era.

Quote:Also, what is your position on abortion?

It must be legal
What's wrong with punishment? Why should a mass murderer or rapist get a second chance?

You are pro-choice, can you explain why?

Its immoral not because abortion is immoral but because it is based on and promotes the idea that somehow a male child is superior to a female one.

How can it be immoral if you are pro-choice?? Why are you pro-choice, what justification or reasons do you have?

I meant, what do you believe you will specifically experience after you die?

punishment is essentialy revenge, it is to inflict pain on the offender for reasons of revenge.

correctio is what a modern justice system should work on, it should work on determening the reason why crime happens and thereby institute measures which insure that they dont happen again.

ask a rape victim and someone who may die during birth and ask yourself if you have the right to determine what women should do with their vaginas.

I just told you. It's immoral because it promotes the irrational ideda of gender superiority.

Woman's body, her choice.

Loaded question. I wouldn't exist anymore - so the question of experience doesn't apply,

Right, let me get this straight; you believe it's a woman's body therefore her choice correct? But you're also saying that women shouldn't have the choice of aborting females. That's a blatant contradiction. You either give her the choice or you don't.

What does "non-existence" mean exactly? What will you see/hear etc. is it going to be the same as before you were born?
