I obviously can't speak for anyone else, but for me personally, religion frequently interferes with my life. That really bothers me and I with we had separation of Church and State in my country. Yes, I'm aware that the UK isn't as bad as a lot of countries when it comes to religion being shoved in everyones faces, but when every attempt at equal rights hits a wall of religious nutjobs telling me I can only marry a man (thank fuck I'm actually attracted to men) if I ever choose to marry, and when Christmas dominates 4 months of the fricking year, I get fucking pissed.

Why are atheists so obsessed with religion?

Basing that question just on a number of forum topics isn't very good research, yet poor research from a theist comes at no surprise. The reason why I show interest (not obsession) in Religion is through upbringing and the huge negative impact it has on the world. Plus the more that is learnt and discussed the stronger the argument. Lastly this is a forum for this kind of discussion, I see it more as a stance than an obsession.
I find religion fascinating. I certainly wouldn't say I'm "utterly consumed / obsessed" with it.
Boy, am I sick of the theists on this forum who insist on telling me all about myself. There are several well-reasoned responses to the OP, and theists come in and shit all over them.
I'm not "obsessed" with religion. I'm interested in it because of the impact it has had, and continues to have, on my life. 
To OP : let me answer your question with a question: Why are detectives so obsessed with crime?

I only appear to be obsessed with religion when I'm here; most of the rest of the time I don't even think about it. Even when I do, my interest tends to revolve around how ridiculously childish it all is; that combined with its tremendously disproportionate appetite for power and respect.
I also visit, on occasion, a forum dedicated to Dalek building (yes there really are such things) - you'd be surprised at how obsessed everyone there is with the subject of Daleks and their construction. I have no idea why.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.
Speaking only for myself it is the natural result of idiots parading their childish visions of their own particular invisible sky-daddy all over an Atheist web site.
