[SPLIT] Star Trek, Firefly, B5 etc.
#11
RE: Is belief in God a choice
The problem I have with Start Trek (the series ever since TOS) is that it appears to be writing by committee, sure that knocks many of the rough spots and weaknesses off but a single person vision can lead to a much more challenging and often cohesive vision as I think happened in both Babylon 5 and Firefly (series). Not that both didn't use other writers but both had one writer controlling and vetting the scripts i.e. J. Michel Straczynski and Joss Whedon respectively.

I'm not about watching Star Trek but I think the original series was the best (as were the films with that crew) and there are far better science fiction series out there including B5, firefly and, until that appalling last episode, the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica).

I watched the entire first series of Star Trek as it was broadcast (and all the others, except Enterprise as that was just insulting), and the 1st series sucks balls IMO. the rest were far better. I'd never watch the first series again, I would the rest.

Can you clarify which season it is you dislike?

I like all the originals (Kirk & Co and films 1 to 6), I pretty much dislike all of TNG (though I quite liked "First Contact"), I kinda like DS9 but only when Sisko goes "'ard" (shaves his head and gets a goatee) and kinda like Voyager from the last episode of Season 3 (coincidentally that's the first episode Seven appears in but I'm absolutely sure that's irrelevant Wink Shades).

I watched maybe 2 episodes of Enterprise but could never quite adjust to the older Enterprise being much flasher than the original.

Despite not particularly liking the battles and having a number of other criticisms I loved the re-launch ST film.

I have a sort of childish soft spot for the whole of the 1st series, but you look back at it and it's all bldy Kirk 'fisticuffs' and lame love action spoiling the stories. The Romulans have got to be the most boring race out. The Klingons were laughable until TNG made them respectable.

TNG I loved all of it (except one incredibly 'wet' episode featuring Geordie LaForg & his love interest (yawn). Picard was amazing - the Borg are just the best race ever invented, closely followed by species 8472 of Voyager and then the Dominion with the Jem'Hadar. The M Continuum and Q were great, and the very wide spectrum of possible species they came up with. The Prime Directive really came into play more completely too.

Voyager was pretty amazing. 7of9 (hubba hubba LOL) bringing in the Borg was a genius move. that's what the public wanted. Some awesome episodes there.

DS9 I found incredibly cheesy, especially Sisko's acting. I liked that the Ferenghi came into there own plus there was Kazon Dax lol.

I've only like one of the films: First Contact. Notice Kirk's addition produced a fist fight again (snore). I haven't seen the new film yet.

I like the old Klingons but yes, I suppose we do own TNG the dinner-plate-headed crew!

I despise Picard, yes the Borg we an awesome enemy (almost as good as The Daleks) and species 8472 were OK (at least their ships/capabilities were), the Dominion were OK I suppose. I disliked Q (not sure what M is) and the Prime Directive was built to be broken, that's what it exists for (my opinion).

Agreed on Voyager though only the second half ... Kes irritated the flying fuck out of me!

I'm the reverse on that, Dax was OK I guess and I always found Odo irritating.

Er ... Kirk wasn't in "First Contact", he was in "Generations".

If you like Kirk you should see "Star Trek"

Ah sorry yes, Generations Blush Oops!

Nah I hate Kirk, he spoiled it ..I hate William Shatner anyway - he spoils everything he's in.

Kes the girl? Nah - she was fine LOL. Nelix - now he was borderline.

The M Continuum was what Q belonged to.

I have a copy of the rules of acquisition. I think the Ferenghi were modeled on either the Indians or the Arabs. No offence Indians & Arabs Tongue

I've always loved over-the-top characters and Kirk is that ... it's like that joke comparison between him and Picard, Picard is fluent in Klingon, Kirk knows two words which roughly translate to "Fuck You!"

Well there you go ... another thing you and I wont see eye-to-eye on.

Star Trek! I love Star Trek!!! TOS and TNG both are fucking awesome. The new movie is the best yet. If you haven't seen it yet do yourselves a favor and go see it. It's better than Star Treks II, IV & VI with the original series characters. Those 3 movies are the only 3 worth watching with the original crew. I liked the TNG movies, but to me they were just like extra long TV episodes. The last one where they killed off Data pissed me off. I love Data, bastards. As for the other series, DS9 I didn't really watch, I liked Voyager, but 7 of Boob got on my nerves, and I really did try with Enterprise, but yuck. That Vulcan with the skin tight suit and the big fake boobies made me want to puke.
