Sure it is, but I doubt it will be in 2012.

2012, unfortunately, has become such a large source of revenue that it's historical relevance (though probably inaccurate but still interesting as general knowledge) has been tarnished so badly that its just become a joke.

Like Y2K. Remember that shit? The world was going to come to an end then too. Very dumb. The clocked ticked, the years 2000 came and nothing happened. Just like it will in 2012.
But I'm still going to stock up on canned goods and weapons.

I have weapons already. My parents have a basement full of canned food. I think we will be ok. I remember Y2K. I was drunk on that night and I dind't give any thought to it what so ever. I just am not looking forward to all of the Jesus freaks standing on the streets with their signs as 2012 draws near. They already do it too much as it is. I wonder how many cults will spring up between now and then?

Actually Y2K was a real computing problem brought about by many computer systems using 2 digits to store the year rather than 4 (99 rather than 1999). Since many computers used these dates in calculations, they needed to increase by 1 as the year passed. This worked for every year prior to 2000, but on the Millennium the year went from 99 to 00, putting out all the calculations by -99.

Only a few systems were affected in the end, due to some clever people spotting the problem beforehand and encouraging system upgrades that used 4 digits rather than 2.

It was more of a computing problem then an "end of the year" dealy, like Adrian said.

September 9th 1999 was a concern before 2000, in fact. Because it'd be written as 9/9/99, it was a concern of confliction with "9999" which is(or was) used to refer to an "unknown date" ironically.

Plant X seems to pass us every few years Wink What a strange phenomenon! Thinking
Please give me a home where cloud buffalo roam
Where the dear and the strangers can play
Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
But the skies are not stormy all day

Yes, I know it was a computer problem, but there was still a lot of hype on the world ending because all of the computer systems in the world would shut down and yadda, yadda, yadda. Wasn't there a movie made about that too?

I can't remember if there was. Perhaps you're right though.

We can't say for certain if 2012 will occur or not, and past experience does point to it being just another money-making scheme, but I do find the possibilities very intriguing.

The earth has been undergoing so many changes in the last 100 years or so, and so many natural disasters have occurred (E.g. Tsunami, Katrina) that it does leave you wondering.
