From a historical perspective, Aractus is correct. I cringe every time Dawkins brings up Hitler being a Catholic because it's only accurate in his early life and not when he was actually a political player. I think he should drop it from his critiques of Catholicism. You don't need to bring up Hitler to wholly crucify the morality of the Catholic church.

I always see him bringing it up as a response (or maybe it's just an excuse) to theists' claims that Hitler was an atheist.
Anyone in power becomes atheist.... I doubt the pope himself isn't an atheist!

Yeah, claiming that Hitler was an Atheist is far far more inaccurate, since at no time did he ever claim to be one. Nor is there any record of him making private statements about being an Atheist. There isn't any evidence at all for that.

But the RCC never excommunicated Hitler or any Catholics who were involved with the Nazi party. However the RCC excommunicated every member of their church involved with Communist organisations, which amounted to several million people.
