RE: Would like to say Hi!
Are you saying that because you are a loveing hypocrite with a sense of humour its ok, because you understand true morality ? how does calling yourself DeardoG, add up to good moral conduct, is this not just more hypocrisy ? I do not have a system of belief/religion ps: I have a name for your new found religion, how does "Speculative Hypocrisy" grab you, I think its perfect as you will be sure to get a few laughs .

Be sure to barbecue kittens, record the NFL without their permission and rip the tags off of your mattress.

I think Speculative would be more appropriate for your religion, my friend. To me, the name is not offensive and has no "moral" issue. I am not making my god angry. I am merely using this name to state the fact his name has no meaning to me.

If you find this offensive, go and pray and ask god to change it for you.

As a side note pal. It is amusing to me that you cannot welcome a person to the forum, the reason for the post, without having to argue your points. I'm sure you could have done this somewhere else within the site. Hey, I can be an asshole, damn, I am an asshole, I didn't say I was a saint, I love to express my amusement at religion, and one of those expressions is poking fun at gods name... it has no meaning to me, if you take offense, ignore it. I still have morals where it counts without the need for divine smiles. I don't steal, I don't murder, I don't rape, I try to be a good person without the need to satisfy any craving for love from your daddy. I also have no issue with religious people themselves, I have many friends whom share your religion, unlike some of those said religious people that just cannot tolerate people that go against them.

Good moral conduct in your eyes differs from mine because, unlike you I create my own morals based on human nature. I do not reach for the hand of god. A lot of bad happens in this world thanks to faith. Those folks thought they had morals. Perhaps they did, but religious morals, which is why they caused harm to others.

You refer to yourself as a secular humanist, but then go on to say , { To me, the name (DeardoG) is not offensive and has no moral issue. I am not makeing my god angry. I am merely useing this name to state the fact, his name has no meaning to me. } in other words you have no issue with causing offense to others. Given your religious views, which would make you a philanthropist of sorts, why call yourself by a derogatory name which shows you to be bias to a large portion of mankind, can you not see the contradiction . ps: The use of backward spelling ie: doG is a well known satanic practise.

Perhaps you can cite the legislation that indicates you have a right not to be offended?

My name's Michael and I just wanted to say hey before I begin posting throughout the forum. Growing up in a family of Catholics, god was a pretty big part of my life. However I did manage to resist the urge to sell my soul to either god or the devil and found Atheism. I am now a gentle heathen that loves to interact on the net. I have only recently began spreading my own messages and interacting via the internet but it's a lot of fun to find so many of us around.

Atheism for me is a very important aspect of my life. Because it allows me to cherish life in the here and now, and not allow it to seep away thinking I will have eternal life after I'm dead. It disappoints me when people mistake Atheism for a religion, because this shows they just do not understand what it actually is. I am dead-set against any sort of teaching of religion on children. It is unfair to brainwash them into being afraid of something, but at the same time, love that something. It's important that humanity allows children to make up their own minds in order for generations to succeed.

We have science, we understand things we did not understand before. We should stop living upon the ideals of ancient misogynistic men and believe what we see in the here and now.

Thanks for taking the time to read and I look forward to chatting with you all in the forums.

Welcome !

I am also a newbie. I grew up in a catholic home myself. Everyone around me is religious. My little brother is 7 and he just made his communion. I had to sit by for weeks, watching my little buddy
get brainwashed by my family, his school and the local church.
Driving me nuts I turned to the interweb and here I am.
So i totally agree with you.

We are all atheists about most of the gods that societies have ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.

You're aware that being for secular humanism does not mean I have to be a saint, right? It just means I support human ethics and reasons and do not subscribe to all of that pseudoscience mumbo-jumbo.

I am bias, but I still understand the views of religious people. Unlike those said religious people of course who use names referring to god on a regular basis; is this not bias also? Just because you would support a name like "LOVE-JESUS" for example, does that mean it is a good name? To me, this name is bias and derogatory, because YOU are now disrespecting my opinions. That name to you is not derogatory, but it may be to atheists, but we do not make a fuss of this.

Uh-oh you are blind to your own hypocrisy, hehe!

Religion however means that any name used against the name of god is derogatory... how is this fair?

PS: I do not believe in god, heaven, hell or satan, therefore to me, the spelling of doG is NOT satanic practice.

Thanks for everyone who has given me a warm welcome by the way! Gnosis I am glad I have found someone with the same opinions! Smile
