Agnosticism is when a person thinks there is not enough information to make a decision on the existence of a god or gods and so does not make any kind of decision.

Atheism is when a person does think there is enough information and so they do not believe in a god or gods

The two do not mix, you cannot be an agnostic athiest
'The more I learn about people the more I like my dog'- Mark Twain

'You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.' - Dr House

“Young earth creationism is essentially the position that all of modern science, 90% of living scientists and 98% of living biologists, all major university biology departments, every major science journal, the American Academy of Sciences, and every major science organization in the world, are all wrong regarding the origins and development of life….but one particular tribe of uneducated, bronze aged, goat herders got it exactly right.” - Chuck Easttom

"If my good friend Doctor Gasparri speaks badly of my mother, he can expect to get punched.....You cannot provoke. You cannot insult the faith of others. You cannot make fun of the faith of others. There is a limit." - Pope Francis on freedom of speech

Agnostic: noun Agnostic means a person who views the existence of ultimate truth as unknowable, particularly when it comes to the existence of God.

I counted four people today who did not understand the compatability of the two words agnostic atheist.

So to clear things up: agnostic atheist uses the adjective form of agnostic not the noun form. The meaning changes, it goes from the noun which itself is a belief, to a definition of not knowing (can be applied to many terms as a descriptor.)

Gnostic in descriptive form (adj) means knowledge but not in anything specific;

Agnostic in adj form means not knowing in anything specific.

Gnostic theist: a Theist who claims to know without a doubt there is a god (which is impossible to know without faith).

Agnostic Theist means a theist who doesn't know if there's a god but believes in god.

An agnostic atheist is an atheist who doesn't know if there's a god and doesn't have sufficient evidence to believe in god.

Gnostic atheist is one who believes without a doubt there is no god (also impossible to know without faith).
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

I made a thread on this a while back and I thought similarly to you.

They're just modern meanings of the words "agnostic" and "gnostic". This is another way they are used. I am an agnostic atheist myself.

If there was a god and he beamed down to earth, I would acknowledge he exists but I wouldn't worship him. Not after reading some of the worst passages in the bible. Sure there is a lot of good stuff, but it's with its bad stuff too. And I have tried learning science and religious science, about like young earth vs. old earth and what not and just to me, not that I understand everything because I am not a science professor, the big bang and the age of the universe being 4.5 something billion years old makes a hell of a lot more sense than the religious version of that. Everyone is entitled their opinion and I don't have a problem with that. And about me stopping being a Christian, well I officially was one, but in my mind, I never really believed. I just made empty prayers and thought some of the stuff they taught at church was just ridiculous. I still think religion should be looked at because it is fascinating. But looked at for it's history, not taken literally. I hope to get to know you all. Thank you for reading!

Hello p9,

Your presumed troubles you alluded to that turned you away from faith have fairly steadfast answers available. But, to eschew from derailing this thread, let me just say nice to meet you Smile

We can chat elsewhere if you so please.

Cheers
