Didn't realise you were based in the UK. So, how exactly could we go about getting separation?

I'm not from the UK, but something that immediately comes to mind is public funding of religious schools.

I just want to add that it isn't just the US Constitution that calls for separation of church and state. Jesus reportedly said to tax protesters in his day, "render unto Caesar what is Caesar's. Render unto God what is God's." Sounds like a mandate for separation of church and state to me.

Absolutely

I'm all for gay marriage

love is love <3

as for abortion, I think it depends on the situation. For instance if it is dangerous for the mother then of course an abortion would be appropriate

Sorry ... didn't realise you'd replied (it's hard tracking threads here).

Unfortunately the Queen is the head of the Church and is fairly popular so we'dd need to get rid of the Royls first. Though I bear them no particular malice I'm not a monarchist either.

Kyu, the church's popularity in the uk is on the wain and the path to oblivion. The royals are probably more popular, but their spell over the populace is not what it once was.....and young Harry isn't exactly helping their cause..so all is not lost and still to play for.

In the U.S. the separation of church and state is an illusion. It is stated in our constitution but in reality it plays a major role in politics and all major decisions regarding ethics and morality in this country. Also, the church suppresses scientific advances citing violations of Gods laws and statutes. It behooves any politician in this country for the sake of his career to listen to the church since they are actually the majority vote in this country.

Gordon Brown and the Queen are sailing in the middle of the ocean and the boat begins to sink. Who is saved?

The country Big Grin

A friend at school told me that one today so I thought I'd share Tongue
And I'd be inclined to agree with Bozo on the subject of royals. They aren't that popular are they? I'm sure most people would like to see the back of them.

Haha! LukeMC like that joke! Thanks for sharing it.
The UK has had to suffer a royal family for so long. It suits those in control to have this mythical family of highest moral values and wisdom for the country as a whole to revere and look up to. It is a great confidence trick, in reality. A whole propaganda machine exists to present this family in the best possible way. I'm not talking about the current lot, it has been this way down the centuries.
The royal family is a bit like religion...it is used as a control mechanism over the populace.
Here we are in the 21st century and we are still " subjects " of the king or queen of our country.
The family is at the top of the class structure of the UK, this is one reason why I want to see the end of it.
Interesting isn't it that when you look to developed countries that formerly had monarchies, they no longer do....wonder why?
I would like to see the British royals offered to the world in a global auction. That would prove how popular they really are, methinks!
Either that....or just chop their heads off like the French did!
