But you won't know that. You'll be dead.

I believe this forum is to discuss aetheism not just to pat each other on the back. You should try to help this lady as best you can. I am a believer and the site makes it clear it is open to all for debate.

Take a moment.

Maybe not just a moment, maybe take some time.

Now think. Think of every asshole you ever knew. Every disgusting mean bully. Every perverted moron. Every imature imbicile. Every arrogant cunt. Every jerk. Every single person you once met or knew and are happy not to see anymore or who you still see regulary.

Looking forward to meeting them again?

Its really affecting me now I have a one year old child who I love more than I ever thought possible to love another person. It makes me genuinely depressed to think I will die and so will he and I will never "see" him again. How do I stop feeling so sad by this?

Have you considered seeing a therapist? Everyone copes with subjects like this in their own way, and sometimes it can be more than we are equipped to deal with. Sometimes we need a little help - and as another poster said, you may be dealing with some post-partum depression.

I've had to face issues dealing with my own mortality over the past 18 months, and I know it's not easy, but it can be done.

No problem. I'm happy to discuss with theists. I care about your happiness. I just don't like being dicked with by people pretending to be atheists in order to portray some problem they see with our perspective.

Right now we have dunzce creating thread after thread promoting brutality in order to make the point that without a god to appeal to there is no basis for condemning any action morally.

Now, and again I apologize if I am mistaken, but I just don't think worrying about life being finite because one has a baby is very convincing. Theists I'm sure think that planning on an after life is an enormous advantage and allows one to deal with moments .. well .. just like this. I just don't believe any atheist is going to pine about what happens after death.

First off.

Are you:

http://atheistforums.org/thread-17338-po...#pid405668

http://veridican.org/reviews/atheistforumsorg.html

because this phrase:

Quote:pat each other on the back

sounds familiar.

Second off:

Helping someone is not debating

Third:

What makes you think that we have some kind of commitment to help people who come here?

Fourth:

outline and explain what makes you believe that there is no debate here and that people "pat each others backs".

Well, you won't know anything once you're dead, so you have nothibg to worry about there....

But your kid is the one who will one day have to learn to live without you (unless something awful happens) one day. Look after yourself and try to live as long as you can so you can be a mother for as long as possible. As someone who lost my mother relatively young, I spend half my time missing her and the other half resenting the fact that she left us to fend for ourselves.

What you need to keep in my mind is that once you're dead you won't know that you're dead, you won't be conscious of your death, no more than before you were born, then you weren't conscious that you didn't exist.

Life is a one ticket, no refund no return. Make the very best with your child.

Probably outta swing this thread somewhere appropriate.

With any luck - you don't. Just my two cents.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Wait, are you saying this site is open for debate or for helping people? I don't believe I've signed on for any first responder responsibilities. Right now I'm debating whether any genuine atheist is going to come to an atheist forum to pine for her newborn child because now she realizes how tragic it is that life is finite and there is no eternally-ever-after. She was okay with that for herself we are to believe but the thought that her new born should one day have to face the idea of mortality is enough to make her swoon? Sorry, I'm not feeling it.

I've been doing some work to get in touch with my inner asshole. I think I may have made a break through today.
