Welcome! Do you live near Hattiesburg? I lived there a few years back in the '80s. Went to the University of S & M.

I'm studying Philosophy and Religion at college. I love it. I am building up some courage to tell my super christian family that I am atheist. Currently I am reading the Qur'an and adding in notes from the skeptic's annotated Qur'an and different websites. It's fun. If you know any good reading for that let me know. Thank you.

Be sure to barbecue kittens, record the NFL without their permission and rip the tags off of your mattress.

Oh and as an aside, I love Sam Harris but he calls himself a "spiritual" atheist too. I personally hate that terminology. What is wrong with simply saying "I have a sense of awe and wonder about life and nature". The word "spiritual" is rooted in superstition and mythology and trying to water it down to a secular version to me is excess baggage.

Nice welcome hey? Anywho, enjoy.

How did that happen?

Welcome anyway.

I don't see anything wrong with saying that. If that works for you great! But for me that doesn't work for me.

Was that a response to me?

I don't agree with it, but I know people call themselves "brights" and for similar labeling reasons (not that they mean the same thing, just that they similarly feel a need to define themselves in ways a lot of atheists don't agree with).

I think its different. Most people don't like things that are different. I'm the kind of person that would go to a sweat lodge or meditate. Just because I don't believe something, I'm not going to knock someone for it. I'll usually give it a go.

Careful with that. I'll try to find it later, but someone died in a sweat lodge for "trying it" and no one doing things properly.

That was just an example. First thing that popped in my head.
