RE: souls
I think that it is a beautiful idea, but I don't believe in it.

What kind of idiot believes in souls?

John Lear.

Ah.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

RE: souls
I believe in Ryan (that's me Tongue ) If I had a soul that died when I did and wasn't separate from my physical form, what the fuck good does that do anyone? I'm just me; all the other stuff is meaningless fripperies, unless you want to start teaching me to leave my body and walk through walls. If it doesn't do anything, why should I care enough to distinguish it from the rest of me?

"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

RE: souls
The "human soul" is only applicable to humans, who are sentient and reasonable.

If We finally meet reasonable and sentient aliens, I will be ballin'.

If the soul dies with the body, then how is it different from simple consciousness?

RE: souls
As a metaphor for the complexity of the human mind and the interplay between our thoughts and emotions, yes. As something somehow apart from the brain (as opposed to created by it), no, regardless of whether or not it dies with the rest of me.

RE: souls
I believe that every human on the earth is essentially the same being, only split up into different bodies. Originally, we (or should I say 'I') were all together and a single conscious, but then we happened upon earth and split up. We are lilin, a colony of flawed and separate entities; only when we join together and become whole can we truly become perfect.

not srs and what the fuck is a soul?
