A deconvert from ISLAM!

RE: A deconvert from ISLAM!
Welcome, deceptive illusion ! You deserve much respect for that being atheist in a religious community is an evidence of a high degree of mind freedom. Smile

Don't be bothered by pretending that you are Muslim. Consider it a social attitude not a religious attitude. At all events, all people hide some opinions and creeds no matter they live in secular or religious societies and no matter the leaved their religions or didn't. I know it is so frustrating to be an atheist in a religious family but convince yourself that it is a temporary state which will change in future. Plan firstly to be independent of your family and try to live in another city or district. This will give you a reasonable degree of freedom then, if you can, leave this country totally.

At last, Don't treat your atheism as a religion i.e don't be a very enthusiastic atheist and don't let it be your main trait. Being such kind of an atheist in a religious family is too miserable. Consider the religion around you just a social phenomenon (Too fuckin social phenomenon really, I know. But try however not to be very hostile)

I don't think anyone unless they live as a minority under extreme oppression can decide to be open or silent. But to say we in the west which have much more safety to a degree should not be vocal about oppression over there, not just of atheists, but of women and any "apostates".

Ayaan Hersi Ali escaped the same thing and became vocal once in the west. It certainly is not for everyone but to say those who do have a voice should not be "enthusiastic"is absurd. We can do for those stuck there what they cannot do for themselves, we have the power to speak for them.

The best advice I can give is stay low, be careful, and plan a way out. Then when you do get to a more free society, you'll have more opportunity to be vocal.

I am one of those who are stuck there ! Not only me, all my non-theist friends live in religious families in religious societies under some kind of religious laws. But the problem is not merely a legal one (For instance in Egypt atheists are not legally punished for leaving their religions). If you are an atheist and you declare that, you will lose your father, mother, brothers, sisters, friends, wife, sons, and business. In short: you will lose your life. In Egypt we are atheists only on the internet or when there are no theists with us.

OK. An atheist by nature is allergic to nonsense. If nonsense is around you from all sides and you are forced to comply with it to some extent it will be so unbearable. What I am saying is that not to be very allergic. Try to adapt yourself till you will be released from these constraints. Otherwise, you will lose your mind.

Anyway, this is Nature and this is life. They are not ideal unfortunately.

Welcome, deceptive_illusion..

just like you I'm also an atheist, an ex-muslim.. we share the same problem: the utterly hostile responses from our community if they know that we dont believe the same way they do.. as long as youre in your community, keep quiet.. I'll be around if you want someone to talk to Big Grin

RE: A deconvert from ISLAM!
Hello Guys, coming here after a long time, you guys gave me the motivation needed to carry myself throughout these years in this repressive society. Now the time has come that i was waiting for, I am on my way out of here, but sadly a very sad and infuriating incident has unsettled me a lot. Please read about it in news and current affair section.
Again, thanks all of you for the motivation and advice which has helped me to not blow my cover, otherwise i'd have suffered a very very bad fate, same as the person in the post I made.
