Absurdity in the Bible

Absurdity in the Bible
I was stumbling through the internet and I came across this site. To be honest, I contemplated placing it under humor. However, the absurdities are not simply satire. The interpretations are what one with a logical, reasonable mind would expect to encounter while reading the bible.

Quote:Genesis

1. God creates light and separates light from darkness, and day from night, on the first day. Yet he didn't make the light producing objects (the sun and the stars) until the fourth day (1:14-19). And how could there be "the evening and the morning" on the first day if there was no sun to mark them? 1:3-5

2. God spends one-sixth of his entire creative effort (the second day) working on a solid firmament. This strange structure, which God calls heaven, is intended to separate the higher waters from the lower waters. 1:6-8

3. Plants are made on the third day before there was a sun to drive their photosynthetic processes (1:14-19). 1:11

I love that site. I use it as a atheist study guide to the Bible, Quran, Book of Morman, and the other works they have.

God is apparently something of a klutz.

Don't you know that when the bible says something absurd, it's meant to be a metaphor?

If just one part of the bible cannot be taken literally, then neither can God.

You take it literally alright. You take it literally as a metaphor.

Strange that skeptics say omnipotence means god can do anything when that suits there purposes, but they then think that an omnipotent god can't make light without a star as a source.

But he was going to make a star anyway?

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

Wouldn't a god who creates the laws of the universe like: sunlight is photosynthesized through plants and most plants grow dependent on sunlight? Wouldn't he use his own creation of rules to start off his creation? He has other rules too, like life converts energies of all kinds into plant growth. And for that matter, if you look back to the oldest plants, what do fossils show about the plant life??
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

Um, no. We repeat what religious assholes say about their invisible friend and then point out instances where they dismiss his failure to be omnipotent or omniscient or omwhateverthefuck you want and then ridicule their apologies for him not doing so.

Please try to pay attention.
