I haven't needed my birth certificate for anything in 20 years. Passport, drivers license, and social security card seems to meet all needs.

How do you get to the age of 37 and not realize what your birth cert says?

It's been how many years since 9/11? I have had to bring mine out for various things. Could she really not have had to get it out in the past decade+ to see it, at least? And what about the 20 years before that?

What about getting her driver's license in the first place? From what I understand she was just going in for a renewal. I remember getting my first license and I had to take a copy of my birth certificate.

At any rate, why didn't her parents get the problem corrected when she was born? Or did they not know how to read?

That's what I'm saying. There came a point when my mother transferred all my documents to me - passport, birth cert, social security card, etc, and I reviewed them all. Even if she had been careless (which my mother isn't except with food), I would have noticed it then.

I find it passing strange, is all.
