Shit....I signed up at TTA and all you guys came over here.

Strange.

I joined that forum also more than a year ago and I have like 80 posts only. I haven't posted anything there for months, though. It kind of sucks compared to this forum.

Well all of us newbies thank you for the warm welcome. I haven't seen very much here yet that is anything remarkably different from TTA, but I'll keep looking.

Seeing as how we all were obviously a part of what made that forum kind of suck, I hope we don't ruin your party here.

Edit: I do apologize for the snark. Just got home from a roughly 15 hr workday so my nerves are shot. I've had a stiff drink and feel better now.

TTA has been the home community for some of us for quite awhile. Although it has been a great place for us, recent events have given the need for a fresh start with fellow freethinkers. We (I should just be speaking for myself here, apologies) do thank you for the welcome.

I won't speak for anyone but me. I had a serious difference of opinion with the current admins of how to administer the forum. Their understanding seemed to be that free speech was the summum bonum of the forum.

They were implicitly told by the forum owner that it was not, that freedom of speech is a means not an end. Still, they persisted in their absolutist, ideological view and allowed serious troublemakers and hurtful, damaging threads to continue.

I was a SuperModerator there and stepped down over this difference a while ago. I voiced my differences and have been vilified by the current admins as a troublemaker.

That is not the whole story, and others may have a different take on it.

Here's the nutshell story-

pedophile shows up tries to explain that he only "thinks" about sex with kids and doesn't do anything to them and wants to 'explain', and his life sucks sad story.

free speech crowd gets sucked in.

Pedo-haters want him gone...or as I said, "post a photo so I know to hit the gas when you step in the street in front of my car."

many people on the board had horrible PTSD reactions to him being there and wanting to spew his ideas.

lines were drawn and the board melted down into a battle.

some of us said fuck this shit and here we are.



I was a fairly new member there- just a few months- but some of the others were there for a long time.

I don't know how things will end up over there, I think there might be talks going on still behind the scenes on how to prevent this from happening again. Hopefully another mod or two change will help.

Anyway-- we are glad to find a new home, with better smilies, and a welcoming group of heathens.

Well...as a former staff member I can say we worked hard to balance 'free speech' with 'damage control', and by that I mean that presenting your ideas in an intelligent, non-hostile, explanatory manner was protected, and flaming and/or malicious trolling is not. We've had people on this board who have violently opposed to various ideas, or been things we didn't find very savory, and their right to express themselves within the guidelines of this forum was strictly enforced.

(And an FYI, I've found this site to be quite a bit more active than TTA, at least as of recently )
