Unions Demand Repeal Of Obamacare

RE: Unions Demand Repeal Of Obamacare
I'd wager that most, if not all doctors become doctors because they want to help people. The fact that they get paid a lot is based on the amount if skill required to do their job, the amount of training needed, and the amount of hours they work.

Some doctors are money grubbing assholes because they have bills to pay and work on a case-by-case basis.

I have insurance from Kaiser Permanante because I know the physicians there are paid a salary instead of needing to hustle up more work. So far it has allowed me to manage my health in a much calmer and sane manner.

There are bad things, true. But then again, I'd rather not have to watch my doctor like a hawk AND worry if the treatment they're recommending is the expensive one that will secure their funding for the months end. The first I can do, the second I hate.

I do not mind the idea of doctors making good sums of money for what they do, especially when they are specialized in very high-stress fields of medicine. Chalk that up to the reasonable cost of good health care.

I also do not mind the idea of paying higher taxes to ensure that I can get full medical attention on-demand, without having to go through the death panels of private medical insurance. Those are the profiteers I do not like. Any national government has a distinct incentive to ensure medical coverage for all people.

Obamacare doesn't fix the system, but at least it tries to ensure everyone can get medical attention when they need it.

...not even doctors?

Yes. Doctors, like hospitals, need money, but a person shouldn't become a doctor if their sole motivation is making lots of money.
Doctors in the UK get bonuses for the patients they get to quit smoking, lose weight, etc. Doctors in the US get vacations paid for by pharmaceutical companies (amongst other perks) based on how many prescriptions they write. Something is wrong with that.
It's not just the doctors. It's the current US medical model and educational system. Most doctors graduate with a ton of student debt. This results in doctors entering private practices being forced to see as many patients as possible to drive the revenue of their business. Which results in lower standards of medical care, as these doctors have way too many patients.
Doctors should be paid, and paid well, but the current system is fucked.

In socialist Australia, doctor wait for you.

Speaking on allied health, the public waiting times in Aus for some of the allied health fields (speech, physical therapy, occupational therapy) can reach up to 2 or 3 years (and I've read the same of the u.k).

Kid's aren't usually diagnosed with a speech/language difficulty when they pop out the womb. It can take a year (or more). So when are they seen...?

Many therapies are designed around intensive and frequent intervention, these are right out. You get 8 sessions a year thanks to the powers that be (IIRC). But people think they'll have everything provided for through medicare or some shit.

Fuck the socialist healthcare, get yourself, and your family, private insurance.

In America, the most efficient health care is our socialized healthcare that is Medicare. Only those 65 or older are eligible, unfortunately. Medicare has 2% administrative overhead compared to 20% for private insurance. Medicare-for-all would not only be more humane but also more efficient and effective.

As it stands, Americans pay the most per capita for healthcare but get the least to show for it.

Having for-profit health insurance companies run healthcare is like putting foxes in charge of the chicken coup and wondering why they eat the chickens instead of take care of them. In business, it's the classic failure of rewarding A and hoping for B.

For-profit companies, by their nature, want to cut costs. A dollar saved in costs is a dollar earned on the bottom line. And guess what? Providing health care costs money. So for-profit health insurance companies want to collect dues without providing any health care. This means they can be expected to knock sick people off the roles, deny coverage for pre-existing conditions, deny any claims they can and make doctors jump through hoops to get compensated.

Maybe if health insurance companies were all run as non-profit charities, our system might actually work, but as it stands now, it's pure insanity.

All? Ha! Most? Doubtful. I wager a sizeable proportion, possibly majority, of doctors think it is A pretty cool professional perk to be able to use "helping people" to beat over the heads of those who think doctor's salaries are grossly excessive compare to what might be called the world market price, and the severe distortion is the purposed work of a cartel called "American medical association", of which they are glad members and pay their dues not in small part for its services in protecting their incomes.

Q: As an American doctor how do you justify being paid more for providing less resultant health care than your peers in most industrialized countries?

A: How dare you? I help people!

There wouldn't be an issue with rights if one is not asking for resources that is not one's own to devote to one's own health care.

So you need to make the case that health care for different persons is an equally good use of society's resources to justify the position that healthcare is a right.
