How much money a year do you need to live?
#21
RE: How much money a year do you need to live?
Hmmm. Let me see.

Rent is £1.5k a month, other bills about £300 a month. I guess I could live on food/etc for about £300 a month.

Makes me wonder where my money goes to! Smile
Any spelling mistakes are due to my godlessness!

Wow, such a high rent?
For that money, you can rent quite a luxurious apartment in a block that has its own swimming pool and underground parking place, and is protected and monitored by private security.
I mean, here.

Yeah, that is the thing that is the worst about living in the UK. The house is nice, but not what you will expect for that amount.

On the plus side my journy to work is 10-30 minutes so I can't complain.

I guess it's a 3+1 apartment. Three rooms and one living room, plus kitchen and perhaps one or two bathrooms?

Exactly right (1 bathroom). And don't dare imply that I don't need 3 bedrooms for 2 people. I need my space Smile

We have the same, though we really pay a lot less, my friend.
Did you receive this house with or without furniture?

Unfurnished, but prices here for furnished and unfurnished are similar. I prefer unfurnished because I like having my own stuff.

It is all about location though. I can probably go down to £1k if I'm willing to drive a bit further and live in a worse area. And much less than that if I'm willing to drive insane hours.

Go ahead and shock me. How much do you pay? Smile (if that is not a rude question)

If I wanted to live in the wilderness off the land, yeah, I could get by on little or nothing. I see a lot of people living under bridges and such, I'm sure they get by on little as well.

I don't want to do that.

Oh yeah, there's also such things as child and spousal support - the former I am obligated out of a sense of duty to pay, regardless of whether I could be compelled to do so.

Around here, a shitty apartment in a bad area goes for at least $700/month. Add a couple hundred for necessary utilities (no cable or internet), another couple hundred for food, and another hundred for transportation. So, call it about $1200 a month, or as low as $750 sharing rent and utilities. Note that doesn't include any niceties such as money for clothing or health care. Better hope you don't get sick.

It can be done, and I have done it before, but that's a pretty meager existence. I don't particularly want to do that either, and thankfully I don't have to at this stage of my life.

I'm living perfectly fine on my salary, but that's only because of how I live. It's just me and my girlfriend who only recently moved in with me, which is good because I'm not making enough to be able to take care of kids or send them to college. But I'm living very comfortably.

I make about $3,500 a month (that's an average, it's never an exact number), but I live in a rather expensive area. My house and my immediate neighborhood aren't anything special, but the taxes are extraordinarily high. Especially school taxes. But I like kids learning, I went to the public schools here, and they're the best on Long Island, so I don't complain. I could probably live off of $2,700 a month, minimum.

I live in a dormitory so I pay a lot less, when I'm not in school term I stay with my parents, who pay about 1200 TL monthly, with fees regarding the general needs of the apartment, heating, housekeeper, so on and so forth. 1500 TL makes about 500 £.
