I don't know when it happens for a beginner. I had always been a runner, even as a child, so I don't remember a time when I didn't have it. It was a matter of pushing through that wall of "I can't go anymore" rather than a specific distance or speed, and that changed based on temperature, terrain, and hormonal cycle for me. I'd say if I could keep a good speed for at least 5 miles, I'd pretty much always feel it.

I really need to go watch this next year. XC courses and uniforms are the best.

I never did; running inside feels like a chore, running outside feels like a chore I have a chance of enjoying. :p

Quote:Why AREN'T they running outside if it's not raining or freezing?

As long as there's not ice on the ground I'm willing to run.

Ice, or it's raining cats and dogs. Running in rain sucks.

I'm back on the running horse and right now it feels... awful. I can't wait until I get to the easy four/five mile runs again.

RE: Running
I absolutely love running. I started 5 months ago, and last week I finished my first 21k (not an official race, just felt like running it.) I'm on my school's track team, for a long-distance event, hopefully. Running has done so much for me, and it's fun. Makes me feel like i'm good at something.

I made an interesting discovery last night: if you want motivation to run, run at night on unlit paths and roads without streetlamps or sidewalks.

This totally works. I run where there are a lot of cougars (the animal, not the older women who like younger men) and so if I run at dusk I always bring a buddy. I cannot beleive there is another muppet poster on here, but I can share the spotlight. Angel

I think it would be fun if we all shared what shoes we are training in and racing in...

TRAINING: Saucony Hurricane 14 and 12. I like the 12 better.

RACING: Saucony Kinvara and Kinvara 2. I have a ton of racing shoes (I have trouble passing up a cool pair of racers) but these are the two I am using at the moment.

I've been keeping up with my running -- I'm planning (hoping) ...ok wishing...to run a 1/2 marathon next year. That's the goal. Smile

I wear the women's nike free run's. LOVE THEM. But, I have been wanting to try the vibrams, because I have heard so many positive things about them. Saucony is a great brand, too.

Depending on what you're into, there is a reasonable defense for running from either. Wink

I'm not giving you a choice, so that's a good approach. Big Grin

I can't remember the style, but I'm running in Sauconys. They're purple with orange laces. My previous shoes were Nike Lunar Glides, but I retired them last March - from running at least. They're now my cross training shoes.

I wish I could wear Nike because they are really affordable in Oregon (being based here), but they are never tight enough in the mid-foot for me. I do have a few of their racing flats though. I stumbled across Saucony my junior year of high school cross country and have stuck with them all the way through college to now.

Do you order your shoes or buy them at a retailer?
