I wouldn't categorize atheism as mainstream in the USA at all.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

No, except maybe in Ireland, Romania and Poland.

Definitely not, and I don't just say this because I live in a religious part of the country. There was that poll recently which showed that Americans would rather vote for a Muslim, gay or transgendered person for president before they'd vote for an atheist.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

To not believe in god is equated with being anti-American, so it is about as mainstream has having your nipples attached to a car battery during sex.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Except in Romania, 3 new churches built at state expense are consecreted every week in that small country.

In the capital of Romania there is a monster of building called the "People's Palace", It was built by the former communist dictators Nicolai Chechescu to glorify himself and the regime he built. It is intended to house the entire government with presidential palace, parliment, and all government ministeries under one roof, and as such is the largest government administrative building in the world. It is also the heaviest building in the world because it is built entirely out of marble. It is also the tallest building in Romania.

The current Romanian government is funding the construction of a new cathedral in the capital of Romania specifically to be bigger, higher and heavier than the People's palace in order to convey the "primacy of god over human government". Appearently it is considered very evil to protest this sort of thing, with most Romanians proudly proclaiming Romania to have a very glorioius tradition of religiousity during the Middle Ages and by god they should perpetuate this great tradition.

Nope.

Atheism is being publicized somewhat recently in the US, but that doesn't mean it is mainstream. The US is only about 16% atheist. While most of Northern Europe is majority atheist. Western Europe is close to majority atheist, with the exception of Italy, Spain, Portugal.

There is good news, however. I believe I read recently that a 3rd of the people under 30 are athiest.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Hard to determine because (to my knowlege) religious affiliation is not registered at magistrates.

In the US
