Where is your independent evidence for how public schools aren't successful? Because the literacy rate went down at the beginning of their inception? The literacy rate of kids age 15 or younger today, because of public schools and the availability of education, is 99%. Pretty successful if you ask me.

The burden of proof is on the person making the claim that something works, not the person asking for the proof.

The burden of proof is on the person making a claim, in general. Making a claim that public schools do not work and not backing it up with any evidence shows to me that you lack that evidence. But even then, I did provide evidence to show how well-educated American children are and how well the public school system is working.

Way to ignore a guy, Koolay. Quite the hardcore anarchist, aren't we? Refusing to abide any rules...even those you established.

And why can't they afford healthcare?

Because medical costs are totally outrageous in this country, insurance companies only want to pay for so much care, and we have no universal health care which would take care of the need for Medicare.

You really think someone making $10 an hour can afford the costs of treatment for a major medical problem? Not to mention someone who's retired and living on a fixed income, and older which means they'll likely need more medical care?

What is your definition of successful? I think you are purposefully making your challenge too vague to be adequately met. No matter what answer is given you'll say it wasn't successful because you haven't defined your criteria.

All right. Here's one example. The CDC. It's tasked with keeping the spread of infectious diseases in check. And it does a damn good job of it!
Case in point: SARS. The epidemic hit more than 7000 people in China and Hong Kong. As soon as there was some indication that it might hit the USA, they made it so flights to infected nations were grounded, and international travel was locked down tight. Thanks to the CDC, how many Americans got it? 27. And none of them died.

And seriously, where are you getting this information about literacy rates going down since the introduction of public schools?
