There was oppression against christians during the French revolution and the time periods called "The Terror" and "The Great Terror"???

Note: That is a myth. Wealthy catholic bishops and landowners were murdered and lynched during the French Revolution and the Terrors, but being religious was certainly not reason enought for the Jacobites to murder you. The image of the French revolutionaries as antireligious lynchmobs is one created by anti French propaganda during that time from Spain and Austria.

People who think sex isn't fun probably aren't doing it right.

The whole notion of sex being solely for the production of children is nonsensical. There are people who are too old to produce children, so does this slackwit want to bar them from having sex? There are people who are infertile, so I suppose that means no sex for those folks, either.

Whack-a-nuts like this bloke actuslly expect the rest of us to believe their tripe that their 'protecting traditional marriage', when they're doing nothing of the kind - they simply despise gay people and want to deny them the same rights afforded to straight people.

And someone should probably tell them the banning gay marriage is NOT going to stop gay people from having sex. Or holding jobs. Or raising kids. Or paying their bills. Of doing any of the thousand other things that straight people do every day.

Actually, the French Revolution had some great ideas for dealing with these church bastards.

A few of them would be useful today.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dechristian...Revolution

Quote:The programme of dechristianization waged against Catholicism, and eventually against all forms of Christianity, included:[1][2][3]

confiscation of Church lands, which were to be the security for the new Assignat currency
removal of statues, plates and other iconography from places of worship
destruction of crosses, bells and other external signs of worship
the institution of revolutionary and civic cults, including the Cult of Reason and subsequently the Cult of the Supreme Being,
the enactment of a law on October 21, 1793 making all nonjuring priests and all persons who harboured them liable to death on sight.

The climax was reached with the celebration of the goddess "Reason" in Notre Dame Cathedral on 10 November 1793.

The dechristianization campaign can be seen as the logical extension of the materialist philosophies of some leaders of the enlightenment, while for others with more prosaic concerns it was an opportunity to unleash resentments against the Church and clergy.[4]

Never forget Napoleon's comment about priests.

Quote:"I am surrounded by priests who repeat incessantly that their kingdom is not of this world, and yet they lay their hands on everything they can get"

~ Napoleon Bonaparte

I don't think he's saying sex isn't fun. What he's saying is that god made it fun just to test how loyal of a sheep you are.

I totally agree with The Germans are coming.

It was much more (although not entirely) an economic Revolution following the exceptional cost of both the Seven Year War and the American War of Independance (in which France were allies with the Colonies), it just so happened that the majority of people with money were also Catholics as there was little separation between the Catholic Church and the State at the time.

I'm a descendant of exiled Huguenots and their persecution by the RC Monarchy in France was very much a part of paving the way for the revolution and the revolution in turn was a significant factor in the restoration of the civil status of Huguenots. So it wasn't all bad for Christians, just rich, Catholic ones.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)
