Spent about an hour fussing with my alto clarinet, trying out various reeds and working on getting a good tone in the higher registers. Alto clarinets are notorious for sounding fantastic in the chalumeau (bottom) register and getting increasingly weird and squeaky as one goes up the scale, but I managed to find one particularly nice reed that sounded great all the way up. Now, if I could clone that sucker, I'd have it made.
Oh, and I also worked on "Powerhouse" by Raymond Scott. Love that piece. |
